Zektahawk didn’t stop someone from activating a trap

I was playing my inzektor deck and was going to win but for extra measure I put zektahawk on my creature so they couldn’t activate spell/trap cards but this one guy was able to activate mirror wall and demolished my offense, I don’t know how they were able to do it

Zektahawk only protects during attack declaration.

The opponent is still free to activate stuff on Battle Step or Damage Step.
