Was this intended?

An enemy activated 'de-spell' card and targets my 'mountain' card.
I activated 'twister' card.
The card destroys the card 'despell' and i lost 500 life points however my 'mountain' card was still sent to the graveyard.
I was hoping this would negate the effect but it didn't, I lost 500 lp and my 'mountain' card while my opponent lost a card that was supposed to be destroyed anyways.

Was this part overlooked or something or was it intended?

The enemt also had a Mountain card so i would have chosen that as a target instead.

'Twister' just destroys cards but it doesn't negate the effect.
Cards like 'Malfunction' just negate effects, and then set back the opponent's card. But cards like Solemn Judgement do both things: negate and destroy (http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Solemn_Judgment).
