Shooting Star Bow - Ceal

The effect is that it equip to a monster and make it lose 1000 attack but allow it to attack directly. I been dueling the npc with the deck guardians and they always use that card. However I can never seem to be able to attack directly if they have a monster on the field. Is there a reason for this?

the text says "it can attack your opponent directly" not "it can attack directly" since the controller of the card is your opponent, so only he/she can attack his/her opponent (you) directly.
