It's because game is VERY f2p and people can build whatever they want. Imagine if it use gacha system without guaranteed to get all cards within 80/200 packs open just like actual Yugioh irl.
It is very F2P. KoG 10 times in a row without spending any money is very possible. All that while still having 9999 gems saved. If that's not F2P, idk what is.
It's expensive to you because you compare it with non-sale CASH. For me, I don't need to spend money to build t1 decks because lots of free gems from event and lvl up. Now I will ask you, does yugioh irl give stuff for free without us spending any money for EVERY players?
I played against a sylvan player who destroyed his own hermatree as well as my monster and he still won thanks to his rose lover gardy-yack carrot and mushroom.
The current meta decks (besides spellbooks, which require some thinking and noble arms that require some what of thinking) are just auto win OTK decks, this why Konami has increased pvp LP to 5K and nerf to prevent first turn kills
