Traps don't get excavated, and running 3 means better chance to draw it.
The other 2 copies drawn are dead, yes, but it's not like Sylvan care about having dead hand, the deck's playstyle focuses only on Deck and Graveyard anyway.
To be fair with Soul Release, you could remove them from the graveyard and activate a second o r third depending on copies. (Yes I know said deck didn't have any copies ) I'm just saying.
