OMG, is really funny how a lot of DL players absolutely hate Synchros. They don't realize that the current metagame is even more broken that when the mechanic was originally introduced in the TCG (at least in a DL context, the game is too fast for it's "simplified" design).
No need to be a jerk with assumptions. I may not be familiar with the summoning system, but I am willing to give it try. I'm not one of those people who only likes one or two of the series and hates on others by constantly getting into meaningless, "DM is the best and such-and-such sucks!" etc. arguments. I think DM, GX, and 5ds all deserve a place in this game, summon systems and all.
It's not assumption, it's a fact. I used to despise syncro until I tried them, and so as other summoning method as I only watched DM on my childhood and came back on pendulum era feeling alienated with everything. Admit it, most people don't want syncro to added on Duel Links because they don't know how to summon it yet.
A fact? Have you travelled the whole world and asked every single duel links player about this? I get what you are trying to say, but I don't think someone can speak for everyone either. Plus, it was kind of rude and condescending to call them a "sad bunch".
But it is, if people can't/not willing to accept something new, they're a sad bunch. Go stick to a console game like Forbidden Memories if oldschool all you want, Duel Links isn't oldschool anymore anyway.
Ohh, not Forbidden Memories! The synchro and other summoning stuff looks more fun than that element system from the old games that made it feel like it wasn't even Yugioh!
However, there are hints that it will eventually evolve to be no longer oldschool, since the very start.
For example:
- Champion's Vigilance (a 5Ds manga card)
- Wonder Balloon (an Arc-V anime card)
- Vylon Ohm (a card in Ultimate Rising that in real life, wasn't printed until Zexal era)
Wait, sorry, Vigilance wasn't in 5Ds manga. However, artwork and name suggest that it is based on Jack Atlas' "Champion" series of Spell & Trap cards in 5Ds manga.
I don't buy that, Vigilance hit the OCG MONTHS before Jack ever used one.
Doesn't change your point, of course. The game's very obviously never been "old school"-based. But... The fact that particular card shares a certain naming scheme is clearly coincidental.
Considering we only have the 2 original special summon methods (fusion and ritual) and the fact that we have old characters with voicelines for classic (and mostly outdated) cards, it has that oldschool unique feeling. So, I feel it shouldn't advance to Synchro, ZYX or Pendulums, at least not now. If you want to play those types of cards, you might as well play the TCG or Generations or YGOPRO
Funny. You talk like nostalgia only belong to DM fans. Addition of 5d's world will also bring nostalgia feels for their fans after a decade. If you want nostalgia with old school yugioh you're chose the wrong game, you should play game like Nightmare Troubadour instead
I did indeed play Nightmare Troubadour.
It was fun.
And no, I didn't choose the worng game when playing Duel Links for nostalgia. If you want to play 5d's cards that much, go to Duel Generations
DL have never been designed for nostalgia. I don't understand why people still believe in this 🔥, do you feel nostalgic when playing Sylvan & Fur Hire? Of course we started the game with old school cards bcs if they released Sylvan from the beginning, nobody would buy 🔥ty card like Axe Raider
I'm not talking only about the cards, but also the mechanics. I bet a lot of Duel Links players actually wouldn't want mechanics such as Pendulum summons in the game.
Pendulum Summon is actually slightly less broken in Speed Duel setting, since the Pendulums would eat up 2 of your S/T zone leaving only 1 usable for your Traps, assuming Konami use MR4 style placement for Pendulums.
But yeah, I don't really want Pendulum and Rank 4 Xyz since they are the dumbest thing in Yugioh history.
I don't mind Synchro and Link and any Xyz that's not Rank 4 though.
Too much Rank 4 are generic and has varied effect, allowing them to do nearly everything with just 2 any level 4 monsters, which are easy to get on the field.
Even worse part, you can easily summon Hope the Lightning, one of the most broken Rank 5 in Yugioh history, by simply summoning its weaker Rank 4 version....you don't even need to use Rank-Up-Magic card.
