Do you need to play as GX to unlock other GX?

Bastion gets unlocked by winning 50 low-deck condition duels. What I'm asking is if I can satisfy that condition while playing as Tea and abusing her Holy Guard / Unhappy Girl deck. Or do I need to be playing as another GX character to progress the counter?

No, problem. I m playing in DM all the time and when I switched to GX, Bastion was unlocked. So, you can play any character in any world to unlock him.

While the most recent additions in the game require you to unlock things in that world using that world's characters, some of the early GX additions don't require that all. So yeah, if you have the GX world unlocked (which IS required) and you achieved "50 wins with 3 cards or less in your deck", the Bastion's unlock missions should be triggered in GX.
