Maybe I'm wrong here but I'm shure I have always used axe of fools with shadowknight archfiend to negate the 900 life points during standby phase. But it dosent seem to be working today??

Fools only negates effects, effect costs and maintenance costs are still paid

Paying LP for chess archfiends is a cost, not an effect. It cannot be negated by any means
