Is detonate deleter meant to die if it activates it's first effect?

I have built a new deck that uses detonate deleter and I wanted to face my brother in a duel and used it. After the duel he was saying that the card is glitched in the game as it is meant to die when it battles a non link-≥3 monster and uses its effect however I did some googling and couldn't find anything about such a glitch. He is also saying people have been banned for using it as it is exploitation of a glitch.

If a "Marincess" monster is Link Summoned, and a "Marincess" monster in your GY is equipped to that monster, you can Special Summon 2 "Marincess" monsters with different names from your GY and equip them to that monster.
Once per turn, if a "Marincess" monster is Link Summoned, you can target 2 "Marincess" monsters in your GY; equip them to that monster.

The card does not say that it destroys itself after using the effect, does it? It works as intended. It is not supposed to destroy itself.
