How to attach images to posts?

Whenever I ask this in general chat, I'm called an idiot/whatever, so I'm hoping I'll get something more constructive in the Q&A page. I'm aware there is a button below for attaching stuff, but I don't know the specifications of what can and can't be attached; file type, size, etc.

Just make the picture small, based on my experience. use your laptop when posting in this site so you can frelly crop or resize your image to smaller sizes.
