I attacked with SODM and my opponent activated negate trap card and it didn't give me option to negate. Why?

"Negate attack"?

That is counter trap card and you can only chain another counter trap card, not any other spell or trap or monster effect.

Let me know if I got it wrong..

Yes, you can't respond to a Counter Trap card with a monster effect, as Counter Trap card has the highest Spell Speed among all kinds of effects.
