Why can't I tribute alien overlord for another alien overlord without having to set it first?

This is the ruling, and also why you can't use crop circles to summon another alien overlord. If there is a face up one you cannot try to summon another, only set and if set if it gets flipped face up it is sent to the graveyard if the other one is still on the field.

I'm pretty sure op has read the card. He meant tributing an existing face-up Alien Overlord for another one. The question is whether it is a game bug that prevents you from doing so or it is some actual YGO rule.

as i do run an alien deck, i can confirm that this is true but you should be able to tribute your overlord for another

Yeah, but the game should identify that u are going kill your Overlord for another, so it's something akward.

Because you can only control 1 Overload. when you already have Overload on the field, you can tribute or special summon him unless yo set him
