Targets your own monster, yes, when you tribute it, but it doesn’t target the opponent’s monster. That pretty much explains why your card was destroyed despite the fact Lord of D. was on the field.
...I'm not even the person that made this mistake, though. (And that was pretty obvious.) Your condescending tone was based entirely on the fact it doesn't SAY it targets. Which it wouldn't. So I corrected you.

The op clearly thought the card didn’t work as intended. But it wasn’t the case; the person was unable to understand the card description or didn’t read it at all.
A proper answer was given; must add “condescending tones” are often used (and needed) when a person is TOTALLY unable to recognize a mistake. Good day.
