To anyone who's seen the movie, does it ever explain why this "cubic" monster isn't cubic... at all?

Nope, probably because they’re not called Cubic in the OCG- the TCG got spooked by their other name apparently and changed it to Cubic

Just read up on it a little. I think the Western translators need to chill a bit.

The fact that Aigami/Diva is constantly using cubes and part of their Japanese name has the same symbol used by "cubes" may have given them a perfect excuse.

The Cubic archetype has Japanese name "方界"(meaning "Direction World").

This card is from the manga, actually. Duza didn't appear in the anime.

However, it's not explained in the manga either due to the reason already mentioned - the OCG name is very different.

It's purely a translation thing. They're called "Houkai" in the OCG which I massively prefer over "Cubic".
