How is this ignorance? I know full well what an Xyz monster is. Calling them "XYZ", however, is straight incorrect, and in a baffling way, since you have to go out of your way to be wrong. "Xyz" is a word, not an acronym or initialism. "XYZ" is no less stupid than "SYNCHRO" or "SPELLCASTER", and I highly doubt you'd be whiteknighting those.
