They cant banish the same monster but they can banish another monster.

Unless you mean dragon spirit of white, then no it only targets spell/trap. SSA can not banish spell/trap.

I think they're under the impression that Dragon Spirit of White destroys a Spell/Trap, which it doesn't.

I think that SSA says that spell cards and trap cards cannot be destroyed but it doesn't say that cant be banished so that solves the issue.
