It depends on what you mean by "the game". Duel Links may of course have some of the same cards as the actual game, but with smaller starting hands, 4000 starting LP, the more-limited field size, and no main phase 2, it's in many ways a very different game--a card like Time Eater is much stronger for instance, while the monsters that can you can flip facedown can't do so after launching an attack.

Also, for better or worse (better, I think--anyone can play Duel Generation if they want the normal game/near-current meta), the current metagame is basically one defined by 2- or 3-card combos to get a main monster on the field, or 2-card beater/control plays.
If they do add them, I'd like for them to be an on/off feature. XYZ and Synchros to me made the game more complicated and I find them somewhat annoying.
