I think people didn't use this card simply because this card is so old (it has no reprint), that most people can't find/don't have theirs anymore. So they use the newer and easier to get Metaverse instead.
The lack of reprint is potentially a factor, but Metaverse is simply a much better card in most cases.
When it was unlimited, it could be searched by Trap Trick and has no activation requirements. Demise, even tho it’s a quick play spell, relies on your opponent doing something to activate
