If you are a NEW player and you want to reach KOG in your first season just follow my advices:
1. DON'T SPEND YOUR GEMS EARLY ON. 1st decide what deck you want to make.
2. Make a good starter deck WITHOUT spending your gems in packs. Use this deck to climb until Legend rank. Then after you have gained some experience use your gems to make a meta deck.
3. Do all weekly/event/etc missions
4. Choose a meta deck that can be built easily and is good for PvP (e.g. Shiranui all cards come from a minibox)
5. Have some dueling skills
My advice for a beginner would be to make a Red-Eyes deck to start. It is easy to build, powerful, fast and AI can use it perfectly for Auto-Duels. But most importantly, you don't have to buy a single packs to make it: 0 PACKS NEED. With this deck and some dueling skills can reach Legend Rank with ease. In details you will need:
Packs: 0
Structure Decks: Return of the RE (500gem)
Farm: Kaiba/Joey
Skill: Balance (Choose Yami Yugi as starter character)
2xEnemy Controller (Kaiba)
3xMetalmorph (Joey)
2xRE Dragon (Joey/Card Trader/Rex Raptor)
2xSkull Meister (Card Trader)
1xA/D Changer (Card Trader)
3xRE Insight (Ranked/Mission/Event ticket)
2xRE Return (Ranked/Mission/Event ticket)
Decklist:
Skill:Balance (Yugi)
Decklist:
Extra deck: 1
1 RE Slash Dragon
Monsters: 8
2 RE Black Dragon
1 RE Archfiend
1 RE Retro Dragon
1 RE Wyvern
1 A/D Changer
2 Skull Meister
Spells: 6
1 RE Fusion
2 Enemy Controller
3 RE Insight
Traps: 6
1 Return of the RE
2 RE Spirit
3 Metalmorph
You can make this deck in the VERY beginning (DM world-Stage 1) within lass than a week and reach Legend rank. Then you will have enough Gems to make a good meta deck and reach KOG. I did it and trust me it works.
(to be continued)
That 1k gems spent on RE structure deck is a waste. Right now there's not that many cheap tiered decks. Shiranui is cheap but requires backrow, which new players don't have. Stuff like aromage, super heavy are below T3.
Also gems isn't a problem for a new players, they have so many characters to level up and get a lot of gems, wasting gems on random stuff is the problem.
(writter) IMO 1000 gem for a 70% complete deck is not a waste. I know it is not a tier but is quite strong and easy to use for new players and for AI farming. Also, red-eyes is a legendary card so it will definately get more support in the future and become meta again (unlike most of todays tier 1 archtypes).
1st writter here. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Really nice there. My only advice would be to drop wildheart for an extra trap and use balance. Balance will quarantee that you will have 1-2 spells in starting hand and increase the chances of red eyes insight/fusion. Also instead of birthright use a red eyes spirit or another trap.
Also be carefull dmto don't accidentally use your dream ticket. Keep it until you decide what deck you wanna make and get a good staple from a main box, like cosmic cyclone.
You are welcome. The more familiar you get with the deck the better will be. Indeed, it is also very good in PVP games, even in platinum rank. However, in legend rank won't do much. However, until then you will have enough gems to make a good meta deck.
I've been playing since 2017 but your New player guide is quite good for beginners. I know what I say because I reached KOG more than once. With that tips a lot of beginners can become minimum a decent platinum player.
Thank you very much for your good words. Even today i use this deck sometimes for fun in Duel Rooms were there are many new players just to check if it is still good. According to my experience i can say it is still very powerfull and fun to use.
you forget the equip card Power of the Guardians, it's a N card from the Stromberg mini box (another f2p deck that appears in tournaments more times than the SHS), Red-Eyes Slasher Dragon + POTG was one of the best combos of a year and a half ago. If you really want a f2p deck for pvp, I suggest Shiranui or Ritual Beasts
Yes, Power of the Guardians-Slash dragon was a deadly combo in the past. However, the whole concept of this deck is that it can be build with 0 packs. Also, i believe it is better for a new player to stay away from old boxes and save gems for newer boxes.
I agree that atm the best f2p decks are Shiranui and Ritual Beasts and maybe Lunalights.
Why waste the 500 gems on red eyes when one could just dig through the shiranui mini box. New players have a lot of gem income anyway. Better to build a expensive deck that's good than throw gems in the wind.
Well this is always an option. However, there is no guarantee that you will be able to make a complete deck so fast. After all, it is just 500gem. Shiranui is a more complicated deck that needs some dueling experience, not ideal for new players. Also, AI tends to use it bad in auto duels, so it is time consuming too.
Don't go meta decks after you've built your first structure deck(I'd recommend going for Hero Generation and Destiny Rulers and bind those together). First, use your UR and SR dream for staples like cosmic cyclones/flood gates and wall of disruption. Then go dig for Canadia in Valiant Souls box(This also contains Masked Hero Anki to support your Hero/Destiny deck.)
After youve got your 3 of each Canadia, Floodgate, and Cosmic Cyclone, then go decide what deck you want to build. Avoid getting meta decks early on because theyre just that, meta. Meta decks come and go but staple cards will stay relevant forever. Its better to have those staples in you account rather than 1 deck that might get phased out due to a banlist or shifting meta.
Hello there. Binding Hero Generation and Destiny ruller plus some cards from the trader can result to a good starter deck (although a little expensive). Your tip to get staples is good but it won't get you KoG fast. Also, future cards will put older cards staple cards to never used list (look old "stables" wall of disruption, dimension prison etc). Canadia is not that good today.
