Certain cards effect activate when they are destroyed. Example: Gradyle Dragon, when he's destroyed you can special summon a monster from your graveyard. Atk with GD then destroy him then atk with revived monster.
Destroy your own machine monster to SS Desperado. In same situation, you can dodge an opponent's Karma Cut as banishing the machine monster will not let you SS Desperado.
