The biggest problem with this is that I haven't seen that many destruction effects that would trigger it, given that it won't trigger from battles.

I tried to use gandora to summon green baboon, but it didn't work. Tried again to make sure and yeah, not working. This is a bug right?

it isn't a bug. you're gonna have to read the card effects carefully.

Gandora banishes the cards instead and for Baboon's effect to trigger they have to be sent to the graveyard. Hope that was clarifying enough.
