I just go complete aggro with gate guardian and attack his first monster which is always in attack position and by then dd won't do anything. Econ is yhen stopped with a regular riryoku field or i just have vermin or another monster set. It's game by then.
You have to be really careful though. If you don't have a defense against ECon, he will just set a card and use ECon to 🔥 you his first turn. That being said, when he goes first and summons a monster in attack, I found using gate guardian a viable option if I draw an ECon counter that first draw.
