"If World Legacy Clash is negated, you are not getting your monster back."
Hi Gamea, may I know what does it mean by this?
I thought that even if WLC is negated, the banished monster will still return during end phase.
Or did I misunderstood the statement?
No, the effect of banishing your monster is only activated on the field, and the other one, which is returning it at the end phase happens when the card is IN your grave.
So, if someone negates WLC activation, the monster is still banished without reducing opponent monster atk, and the second effect can still resolve even if the WLC activation ONLY was negated
I fixed the mistake in the article, and I actually tested everything in-game in order to make sure I was right this time.
Banishing a monster with World Legacy Clash is an activation cost, something you need to pay in order to activate the card, before your opponent has a chance to negate it...
I initially thought the monster returning to the field was part of the effect of the Quick-Play Spell, but it's not. If that was the case, if your opponent negated WLC, you would NOT get the monster back during the End Phase...
My mistake was not paying close attention to the card text.
"Banish 1 face-up monster you control (until the End Phase), then target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; ..."
As you can see from the semi-colon, this entire part of the card text is supposed to happen before your opponent can even negate the activation of your card, and...
...your monster being returned to the field is also part of it.
This just means that, even if WLC is negated, your monster can still come back to your side of the field. It's not part of the effect, so it's not negated.
