Oh buddy do I got news for you. The tcg has a full archetype on him in a full jrpg inspired series of cards. The mekkstrocities are Mekk knights and Krawlers.
The short answer is "yes". Basically the entirity of the Vrains era has been building up a storyline, and the World Chalice are among the main players in that storyline.
World Chalice is actually just one of 7 World Legacy.
World Legacy itself is tied to multiple archetypes:
- Krawler
- Mekk-Knight
- Knightmare
- Crusadia
- Orcust
- Guardragon
Along with World Chalice, there are 7 archetypes, one for each World Legacy. Their stories are tied to each other & currently the main story is at its climax with two mysterious beings (Demiurgear & A-Vida) showing up.
A-Vida and Demiurgear also implies the whole World Legacy storyline is related to the Duel Terminal World storyline, as Demiurgear have the same pattern as "Tierra, Source of Destruction", while A-Vida appears to be similar to "Sophia, Goddess of Rebirth".
Ironically, Demiurgear seems to be just a shell incapable of doing any destruction, while A-Vida appears to be the ultimate evil of the story.

On the other hand, Demiurgear reminds me of Demiurge from Overlord, a scorpion tailed fella who battled Lord Ainz. anyway, if World Chalice characters are main protagonists... then it's cool to know I'm not a toon type.
