Tips for deck building if you want to play an archetype
1) Don’t ram 2 different archetypes that don’t synergise with each other, eg: blue eyes and ancient gears will just brick each other, archfiends and dark worlds may have good synergy and is ok
2) Keep the deck ~20 cards unless you’re playing grass looks greener in a graveyard focus deck like zombies, gem knights or bujins
3) Play 3 copies of most cards, gives you better consistency. Eg with blue eyes, maybe play 3 BEWD with 3 Silver’s cry
4) Play around 1 card or combo, eg: six sams play around summoning shien, pre-need kokais focus on getting maximus for the otk
5) Figure our your matchups. Imagine playing against a Fireking Yubel or a Deskbot, what would they do and how are you gonna counter it. Does your cards have an answer to certain cards?
6) Be creative and try out new stuff :)
No, the deck needs more than having another Geartown.
Ask yourself first: Do I want to play Blue-Eyes or Ancient Gears?
Then make the deck 20 cards, not 30. The less cards you have, the higher the chance that your next draw will be the card you want. Also play 3 copies of the cards you want.
To make it more easy to understand we'll use maths:
20 card deck - 4 in your opening hand = 16 cards remaining.
Imagine your deck has 3 BEWD, 3 Ancient Rules, and 3 Kaibaman.
Your opening hand is 1 BEWD and 3 other useless cards.
So if you draw Ancient Rules or Kaibaman in your next draw you can get your BEWD on the board.
The chance of getting a BEWD is 6/16, a 37.5%. That's over 1/3.
Thanks for that, only time I have ever understood percentages or math in my entire life!!! I don't know for sure if I want to play BEWD, I only have Kaibaman and BEWD if I get bricked (It has saved me quite a bit in duels) if I leave them in, are there any cards in my current deck I should I get rid of? to better run Ancient?
