Just checked again just to be sure, try yourself: put curse royal the turn before, then the turn after activate a field spell, divine punishment will chain to counter it. Both the field spell and divine punishment are in face up position and curse royal should be put in chain link 3, but you can't. Please just answer the question if you know what you're saying, not just to spit your opinion.
I think I've figured out the answer. Curse of royal can counter only those cards that choose/target and destroy. Divine punishment destroy but probably doesn't choose/target.
