Pretty much agree with anonymous op. While there is some strategy and smartness applied, it's all about pay to have the best cards to win. Almost every deck has Sphere Kuriboh. I'd be KOG consistently if I had 3 of these cards, mirror walls, and half shuts.
The only great card that isn't pay to win is Enemy Controller but that's also no life to win because you have to grind a lot to get it.
Would be nice if there were loaner deck duels. It takes out both pay-to-win factors and grind factors, and leaves only skill (and some luck but that's the same with every card game) behind. When I play random battles on Pokemon showdown for example, I rank very high because I know when to stall or go offensive. I'm considering printing my own cards to battle with pure wisdom than money.
CreativiTimothy That's the problem with the current business model of duel links. Getting multiple URs or SRs is near impossible without shelling out money.
You may get a F2P deck to KoG but those decks will simply get blown away at tournaments. Take a look at deck lists that have made top 8 both here and on reddit and you'll notice that they tend to run at least 2x kuriboh, 2x mirror walls
I disagree. I haven't spent any money on this game (or even that much time) and I have multiple URs and SRs. Duel Links is super generous with free gems. I'm KoG and have a high win ratio so it's obviously not pay to win. Maybe you're not playing the game right
in the end its a card game and like in real life you have to pay to get better cards or more copies of them duel links is extremely generous with giving away free gems so i don't think that there is a problem with this game the only problem is that people want everything for free but thats not how it should be and i am happy about that
@Vaermina I think you're missing the point (not deep enough). In real life, rich people still win. Ideally, every should have an equal chance to win but since money is luck of being born in a rich family, it is not completely ethical. It's not about free things -- it's about equal opportunity, whether or not that be making hard to obtain cards for _everyone_ or making everything free for _everyone_
