Rules for WCS 2018 Finals
♦ About the Deck:
5 Decks, each set to a different Legendary Duelist with a different Skill.Duelist can only have 3 copies of the same card across their 5 Decks. In addition, they can only have 1 copy of a Limited card and 2 copies of a Semi-Limited card across their Decks.
Each Match consists of 5 Duels and the Duelist who wins 3 Duels first will be the winner of the Match.Duelist cannot use the Deck they have used in the Duel for the rest of that Match.
DLM based their tournament format on the real-life Speed Duel rules, which are a much better tournament format than the one used in past Duel Links World Championships.
Either way, they still haven't mentioned the rules for this year's, so it's possible they'll be less jank this time.
Yeah, they haven't mention the rules for WCS this year but I bet that it will be the same.
From my point of view, the WCS 2018 tournament format was better the one DLM had. First, you don't play with just a single archetype. Second, you can only have 3 copies of the same card across all 5 decks. Fair rule, you cannot have 2 TTH/3 Canadias in every single deck. Lastly, best of 5, not 3.
Side decks are an important part of competitive play. In these WCS formats luck matters more than skill and more than in a tournament with bo3 and side decks.
Side deck is an important part only in TCG. Till date, DL never had any tournament which require you to play with a side deck.
WCS 5 decks rule is very interesting. You will not know what is your opponent's deck order. You can always start with 2 of your weakest deck and lost. Then save your 3 strongest deck to win the remaining duels. Japanese are good in mind reading.
Oh well.. Konami don't like the side deck idea. Dkayed's side deck tournament is not officially recognize and it is just for self-organized competition.
We never had side deck in an official tournament or any event/game mode. So it is a NO until Komoney decides to implement it. The Japanese was organizing tournaments based on WCS rules and Dkayed never. No surpise if he lose in the first round.
