They're both bad, especially for f2p versions. But dragunity is slightly better because the boss monster is a Synchro monster so 1 copy is actually enough. However, you have to get some other Dragunity cards to make it work.
Do NOT buy the Red-Eyes Fusion deck, it's a waste of 500 gems, one copy of Neos Fusion and HERO Generation should be enough, then invest in Valiant Souls for another Mask Change and maybe Aniki if you get lucky on your pulls. You get a good enough base to go off of with the two Hero decks and some Valiant Souls pulls.
Except the best version of heroes decks also needs cards form other boxes not to mention stratus is not yet availble for new players. Favorite hero is also locked in a structure deck and the good old anki OTK is just outdated.
Just buy the red eyes structure deck. Follow the red eyes guide in the comment section of "new players guide what packs to buy". You will end up with a powerfull deck for only 500gem. Then farm and make a meta deck. Red eyes is a strong choise for new players and perfect for AI auto duels. You will farm fast and easy.
Red-Eyes is the ultimate noob deck. Make also sure to buy some boxes of Dimension of the Wizards to get 1 or more copies of Power of the Guardians because Red-Eyes Slash Dragon + PotG is a very versatile strategy. Not only in PvE but also in lower PvP ranks.
Not saying you should build for Anki OTK, saying you should build between the two Hero decks, hope for another copy or two of Mask Change and you're good for low rank PVP at worst snd can BUILD INTO better Hero decks. Plus if you do manage to pull an Anki, all the better, but you get a decently versatile deck to play with in PVP and can farm with it when you aren't. Only really missing staples
You should be able to get to legend with des gardius, and it costs zero gems. You use tickets, card trader and some LD drops. You miss the point. He needs a good deck to start. Des Gardius is a good deck but needs too much work to get it. What is gonna use until then to farm vs AI duelists? The terrible vanilla starter decks of kaiba/yugi? not to mention in auto duels deas gardius is useless since AI cant use the needed skill. He can just buy a red eyes deck or the hero decks and win easily every single game until then.
