Y'know their plots are kinda complex and the characters are kinda too youthful, they lack a bit of Yuugi/Kaiba's strenght. But that aside I'd say V-rains is a very, very, good Sequel
Don't have any problem with links I've watched the show all the way till latest episode it kind of bores me and I know why because every episode is duel after duel no light-hearted episode the main character is stale but the plot is fine just seems like the show so far. is some mixture of zexal and 5ds.
V-rains is pretty cool and solid.
The only thing that puts it a bit behind DM is the fact that their characters are a bit childish somehow, Yuugi and Kaiba had stronger personalities, but that's pretty much all.
