Just save up for like a month you will be suprised. Im f2p and i have 8000 gems right now. Partly due to the anniversary event and kc cup.

I have 9999 with 40 pages of gems in mailbox. Just spent 1500 on some random box because those gonna expire today. Don't know where else to spend. Recent boxes aren't attractive :(
