It's a very powerful card, but Konami has been very sneaky, because up till now I have about 80% chance I have Mahad in my opening hand (in a deck with only 1 copy and 30 cards). It is still okay to tribute summon it, but its a shame that they made it this way :(
I used to have him in my dark magician deck and quickly realized what a mistake that was. I use him with magician girls instead so that I can least throw him out with chocolate's effect to use for the graveyard if he ends up in my hand at the start.
The issue here is that 1 mahad in a 30 cards deck is supposed to guarantee not having him in your starting hand.
Usually UR cards that are only useful when it is in the deck like mahad have an increased chance to be in your starting hand if you only have 1 in your deck.
To solve this you must have at least 2 of that UR/SR.
I guess everything should be expected as long as it makes people spend $$.
This happens to me with BE Solid dragon also, when White Stone is my only Special Summoning method that works only from the deck and I only have 1 Solid Dragon in my deck.
It seems that Konami punishes players for buying only 1 copy of a UR/SR and wants to make you think about buying a second or third one.
Or, you know, you just notice the 1/8 hands you open with Mahad more often than the 7/8 you don't. (Opening with your 1 Mahad in a 30 card deck is about a 13% chance, slightly above 1/8).
For a 20-card deck, that's 1/5, so going to happen noticeably often regardless.
You might be unto something. I only have one copy of this guy, since I didn't reset the box. But somehow, he's almost get into my hand during the start of the duel! How did this happen? Isn't the chance only 4/20?
Totally BS, man. That's how probabilities can look like. With a 20% chance to have this card in your starting hand, it's actually possible that this might happen 3 or 4 times in a row. Just play a few hundred duels and write down whether it was in your starting hand or not and you'll see that you come pretty close to those 20%.
I know right! I get so angry drawing my 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragons over and over again (until I got Polymerization - "Join me! Fusion Summon", said Kaiba)!
I once kept track of the AI dueling itself against the deck with Time Wizard
Should be 50/50 w/l right? I tracked 100 coin flips. The AI "won" 84 of them. Instead of 50% to happen, it seems to be about 85%. The game absolutely cheats this way all the time, and it use to do it worse then it does now.
