RatingA-

Pros

  • Changes 1 face-up monster your opponent controls to face-down.
  • You can Special Summon this card as Normal Monster when a Trap card is activated (by you or your opponent). Gains immunity towards monster effects.
  • This card is not treated as a Trap card, therefore spell/trap removal effects does not work on this card.

Cons

  • If this card leaves the Field after it was Special Summoned, banish this monster.
  • Have weak ATK and DEF.

Tips

  • When you flip this Trap card after it was Set, it is still considered Trap Card, and it will only set a face-up monster your opponent controls, face-down. After that resolves, this card will be sent to the Graveyard.
  • After it was sent to the Graveyard, you can therefore activate its effect by chaining to another Trap card’s activation.
Monsters set to face-down by this card effect, can be flipped face up again.
  • This card also acts as an easy tribute for Citadel Whale.

Search

When Flip summoned, this card can search for Paleozoic Canada from your Deck to your Top Deck.

Field Spell

This monster will greatly increase its ATK with Wetlands on the Field.

Support

You can further equip Amulet of Ambition to this monster to increase its ATK based on its level difference with the opponent’s monster.

This guy's the reason Synchros can never catch on

I think you misspelled Pendulums there.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Canadia doesn't really stop Pendulums considering you can't flip down the Scales.

Synchro and Xyz are the ones most affected because the opponent can just flip the Tuner or the second same-Level monster the moment you summon it, preventing you from Synchro/Xyz Summoning.

That's why I think Canadia will be the first main box UR to get hit.

Wait, what’s so good about this card? To me, it’s just a floodgate trap hole, that clutters your field with a 1200 beat stick (immune to traps)?
<< Anonymous(asta)
Anonymous Reply
In a more competitive environment, Floodgate is a hit or miss. Almost everyone is aware how the 'BACKROWS' need to be wiped first before you attack, or if you can't, find a way to lock them. An advanced user WILL MOST OF THE TIME, take care of the backrows first before summoning anything. Otherwise, Fgate is better than Canadia if your opponent is lacking hard backrow-removal (witch, trunade, etc)
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Continuing, Floodgate mostly screws those who uses monster effects as backrow removals, since they need to be summoned first. The same way between Mirror Wall and WoD, they're marginally the same but becomes better in "specific circumstances".
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
With Synchro summoning being introduced Canadia is better than Floodgate now. Gives you extra levels. If not Synchros summoning you get a card to tribute. Miles better in my opinion. Floodgate is still good though dont get me wrong!
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Floodgate's effect is more powerful. But Yugioh is not always about power, Floodgate's activation window is very strict, compared to Canadia which can be done at anytime. Therefore Canadia proves to be more useful in more situations. The extra monster fodder is just cherry on top.

I don't think it really needs limitation now that ancient gears and koa'ki meiru are ruling the meta.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Not really, no cards from the red eyes zombie era were limited. Aliens weren't limited, not hazy flames. It just happens that there are stronger archetypes; if you don't want to spend a single cent just play amazoness, hazy flames, or koa'ki meiru
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
True, but this card keeps a lot of other decks from getting anywhere if everybody runs it. There's a difference between countering high platinum decks and keeping the mid to low tier decks from achieving anything if you completely shut down their momentum.

Anonymous Reply
Wasnt red eyes insight limited? Im pretty sure it was.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
I think he meant (no cards from boxes), red eyes insight was a freebie, while gozuki and red eyes zombie were URs from main box

Anyone think this could be a viable f2p way of substituting floodgate while still getting new relevant cards? I started this game last month and dont even wanna touch the generation next box
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
New player so I'd rather buy stuff from the newer boxes which tend to be stronger and more relevant due to powercreep. Definitely looking at Anki as well.

Mr Immortality Reply
its a trash box with main cards from masked heroes, amazoness, and geargias, all tier 1 decks? talking 🔥 mate
<< Anonymous(Mr Immortality)
Yung bandz Reply
OP means floodgate is in a 🔥ty box (generation next is pretty 🔥ty overall compared to newer boxes), whereas Canadia is in a fantastic box with, like you said, geagias, amazoness support and masked heroes rolled into one
<< Anonymous(Yung bandz)

No anonymous before said floodgate is ur in trash box, just anonymous stupid
Anonymous
Hope they don't limit this card.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
they won't limit, a semi-limit is enough.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
They won't limit it because Ancient Gear has been added for a reason.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Fun fact: Canadia is the first card on the UR sales banner.

Konami knows it's op and they want you to buy it (spend $$)
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Yeah, that's why they released Ancient Gear support; an archetype that negates traps until the end of the Damage Step.

What poisonous and deceitful freak you are.
Chu-la-blu
This card ruins any chances of summoning a "okay" Synchro. Semi-limit it for goodness sake
<< Anonymous(Chu-la-blu)
Anonymous Reply
They should semi-limit every OP trap cards: WoD, Paleozoic, Floodgate, etc...
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Agree that all "STAPLE" traps should be semi-limited then everybody will have to use spell/trap cards of their own archetype.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
True, but keep in mind this has had a decent lifespan in the game so far. If it were any other developer, it would have been nerfed already so the meta can change up, but Konami just can't understand balance changes and how mandatory they are to the game.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for the Limited 3 update....honestly I think almost everyone predicted this will be one of the first few cards to be in Limited 3.
Anonymous
Floodgate has become more useful in this current meta than canadia. When facing koa'kis, using canadia on urnight and maximus only stalls them for one turn but if you floodgate them, it clogs their monster zones and most koa'ki players have no way of getting them off the field. Same with ag - using canadia just stalls for a turn while using floodgate on their 3000atk monsters stops this deck in its tracks while you set up your own combo. And don't forget how great floodgate works against vamp queen, cosmo, anki, etc.
<< Anonymous
Ayy Reply
Vamp grace do you mean?
But they can tribute the faced down grace, and summon again from the grave with desire.

Floodgate IS becoming just as useful as canadia. Here's today's card rankings to prove it.

Why Canadia can't activate its effect on a ritual monster?
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Check again the effect of that ritual monster, the ritual spell card used to summon it or effect of other cards on the field that time!
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Which effect, the first one where it flips a monster face down in def position or the second one. I'm assuming its the second one when it is in the graveyard. For the second effect to activate in the graveyard, a trap card must be activated anywhere on the field.
*Note: Be specific on the ritual monster and what effects it might have. It could negate any Canadia effects.*
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Easy. It's ritual summoned using djinn. Search djinn in catalog and you will see.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
If player used a certain Djinn the Ritual Monster will be unaffected by card effects. That includes traps like Canadia
Anonymous
I wish someone could go back in time and tell the real Canadia how popular it would be, 505 million years in the future

it would want to limit itself

Im pretty sure they will never limit this one, maybe they will introduce more backrow removal cards in like... dunno... 3-4 months... so we will see less usage of this card, gradually. So there wont be any need for limitation
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
You can't just limit Canadia, it's literally one of the only tools we have available to keep consistent turn 2 OTK decks in check.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Canadia is the typical card that only bothers the same folks that believe treacherous trap hole is 'broken'. N00bs
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Considering stuff like Cosmic Cyclone and Wall of Disruption still exist and aren't limited, I seriously doubt it will get nerfed. Does annoy me a lot since its practically mandatory in every deck to make them work, but its also the best way to counter rushdown teams.
