Pros

Can be searched by Blue Dragon Summoner and Legion the Fiend Jester from your deck.
Has a very high attack for a monster that only requires 1 tribute.

Cons

Defense is very low which makes it an easy target when switched to defense position.

Tips

Search and summon

You can search Trance the Magic Swordsman from your deck by sending Blue Dragon Summoner or Legion the Fiend Jester from the field to the Graverd. Let your opponent destroy them or you can use them for tributes.
You can also use Legion the Fiend Jester's other effect to quickly summon Trance the Magic Swordsman from your hand. It gives you an additional Tribute Summon besides from your Normal Summon/Set.

Neo trained and came back as Trance after being knighted by Cosmo Queen. At least that's what I thought.

I'm considering the background of this card. The Space Comment just seems so off, but I have a theory.
The only other monster wth 'Magic Swordsman is Neo, that good ol' 1700 atk spellcaster from the early days. So, what if the 'canon' lineage is that Neo grew in power until he decided that he could safely venture into space. Now a space traveler called neo? Rings a bell right? So he becomes elemental hero Neos and kicks some tail, then returns to earth as Trance.
Just a theory of course, but figured I'd share!

I think this card deserves a better rating, it's ridiculous how can people underestimates the flexibility of this card, being a 1 Tribute and 2,600 ATK its a gift. Among the spellcasters, which only a few have High Atk (Black Chaos, Dark Magician Fusions, etc) he is really worth the buy. Constructing a deck on spellcasters, plus negation of cards its a wise choice. Imo he deserves at 8.0 rating. Nice card if played correctly.

This card has been a really good edition to my relinquished deck with other vanilla beaters. He hits hard after 1 tribute and if hes switched to def you can target him with otc

A duelist worth their salt could protect/counter against a mode-switch. A 1-tribute spell-caster with higher atk than any other 1-tribute card (including dark magician, who needs two tributes), it is really a shame you can only get this in that deck.

And being a normal monster he is extra flexible (Soul Resurrection, Blue Dragon Summoner, etc.). Deserves at least a 7.
