Gladiator Beasts : deck recipe

Duel Links Gladiator Beasts deck, Gladiator Beasts in the current meta, how to use, tips.

Overview

The unique effect of Gladiator Beast monsters allows them to switch places with another Gladiator Beast monster from your deck. Monsters summoned by this effect get access to an additional strong effect. The strategy of this deck revolves around picking of your opponent’s monsters, spells and traps one at a time. Because the low level Gladiator Beast monsters aren’t that strong on their own the deck runs a lot of strong spells and traps to hinder your opponent from destroying your monsters and allowing them to tag out.

Even though the most optimal version of this deck is quite expensive, a very cheap version can be made by new players. If you just started playing and want to jump into PvP as soon as possible, I highly recommend you try out the cheap version that will be included in this guide.

How to use

Gladiator Beasts

Beaters

Aside from your fusion monsters these Gladiator Beasts will be your main attackers, because they relatively high attack or effect that help them in battle.

  • Gladiator Beast Laquari - This monster has a respectable attack of 1800 which it can raise to 2100 if summoned by another Gladiator Beast. This is the monster you want to see in your opening hand as it allows to pick of a weaker monster (Gozuki, Senju of the thousand hands, Sonic Bird, Sergeant Electro,..) and then tag out into Gladiator Beast Murmillo to deal with stronger monsters (Red-Eyes Zombie, Ancient Gear Golem, Cyber Angel Dakini,...) or tag out into Gladiator Beast Bestiari to destroy your opponent’s spells and traps.
  • Gladiator Beast Dimacari - Another card you don’t mind seeing in your starting hand as it allows you to switch out into any of your other 3 Gladiator Beast monster depending on the situation. Most decklists only run one copy of this card because it’s best suited to finish your opponent thanks to its two attacks, but it can also come in handy if your opponent has multiple monsters that need to be cleared.

Destroy opponent's field

Gladiator Beast Bestiari - Amazing Gladiator Beast monster as it allows you to destroy your opponent’s spells and traps when it’s special summoned. Don’t forget that you can’t tag out this card for another Gladiator Bestiari in your deck. If you run this deck with the skill Mind Scan you know exactly which spell or trap to target as long as your life points are 3000 or above.
Gladiator Beast Murmillo - This card is the main way for Gladiator Beasts to deal with high attack or annoying monsters if you can’t summon a Gladiator Beast fusion monster. Even though this card has very poor stats, most decklists still run two copies of this card. The reason for this is in case you draw or start

Fusion monsters

All Gladiator Beast fusion monsters are summoned through contact fusion, meaning you need to control the needed cards on the field and you shuffle them in your deck (you don’t use polymerization).

Every Fusion monster in this deck is great in terms of offense. Additionally, they do not need Polymerization to summon just return the fusion material monsters face-up on the field back to deck.

  • Gladiator Beast Essedarii - This is the fusion monster you’ll summon most often as it only requires 2 Gladiator Beasts. When you face a Burn deck it can be useful to contact fusion your monsters equipped with Mask of the Accursed or Massivemorph, or you can also play around Lava Golem if you fear your opponent summoning it. With its attack of 2500 it can hit over cards like Ancient Gear Beast and Red-Eyes Zombie.
  • Gladiator Beast Nerokius - Very powerful fusion monster and has access to a boosted version of the “Ancient Gear effect” , because your opponent can’t activate any spells, traps or monster effects when this card attacks or is attacked. It also can’t be destroyed by battle and has the added bonus effect that it can tag out for 2 other Gladiator Beast monsters from your deck (Gladiator Beast Essedarii does not have access to this effect).
  • Gladiator Beast Heraklinos - You’ll almost never summon this fusion monster as it requires Gladiator Beast Laquari and 2 other Gladiator Beast monsters. It does have the strongest stats of all Gladiator Beast monsters and has the powerful effect of being able to negate spell and trap cards which can be useful in some matchups.

Surviving Battle

Because the Gladiator Beast monsters need to survive battle before being able to activate their effects, it’s important to run strong cards spells and traps.

  • Half Shut - This card can make one of your monsters unable to be destroyed by battle or halve the attack of one of your opponent’s monsters, allowing your low attack monsters to attack, deal damage and tag out. This card can help make some creative lethal plays where your opponent controls one strong monster and one weak monster, and you control multiple monsters (or even Dimacari with its effect activated) , allowing you to deal lethal damage to your opponent by attacking the weak monster over and over again, ignoring his strong monsters.
  • Impenetrable Attack - This card comes in the same box as all the Gladiator Beast cards, and for good reason, it allows one of your monsters to become invincible during one of you battle phases, allowing it to tag out at the end of that battle phase. But you can also choose if you want to activate its other effect instead, allowing you to survive a turn when you have no monsters. This makes it an even better card because of its versatility.
  • Enemy Controller - A staple card in a lot of decks ever since the beginning of Duel Links because of its sheer power and versatility. Recently gained even more popularity because it helps you beat Cyber Angels which is the most popular deck right now.
  • Floodgate Trap Hole - This card is amazing overall in this meta, but has great use in a Gladiator Beast deck. It defends your weaker monsters. Once their monster is in defense you can attack it (your monsters won’t be destroyed by battle), but watch out for your life points when doing this , unless you use the skill Holy Guard.

This trap helps you even the playing field for your weaker monsters. It’s also devastating for people that swarm the field and don’t play around it.

Possible skills

[Skill] descriptionUsers
Mind Scan
If your Life Points are 3000 or more, you can see the cards Set in your opponent's field.

Pegasus

This skill helps you play around your opponent’s backrow and decide exactly which spell/trap you want to destroy with the effect of Gladiator Beast Bestiari. Keep in mind when attacking into monsters in defense position (to activate the Gladiator Beast effect) that you won’t be able to use Mind Scan anymore once your life points drop below 3000 life points.

[Skill] descriptionUser
Holy Guard
You receive no battle damage during your turn.

Tea

This skill prevents you from taking any battle damage during your turn. This allows you to attack freely into your opponent’s monsters (either in defense position or in combination with Impenetrable Attack/Half Shut when attacking an attack position monster).

[Skill] descriptionUsers
Balance
Your starting hand will reflect the card balance of your deck.
Check here!

This skill allows you to run less monsters and more spells and traps, while still ensuring you start of with at least 1 monster. Keep in mind the Balance skill was recently changed (nerfed). To ensure you start with a monster/spell/trap card you need to run at least 6 of that type of card. Also only 3 of the 4 cards in your opening hand will be determined by this skill, the fourth card will be random. To sum up, if you run at least 6 monsters, 6 spells and 6 traps, you will always start with 1 monster, 1 spell and 1 trap.

Pro tip when playing against another Gladiator Beast deck

When playing against another Gladiator Beast deck, one of the most powerful plays you can make is when both of you Gladiator Beast monsters battled (and survived) you activate Enemy Controller at the end of the Battle Phase and tribute your monster to take control of theirs, this will allow you to shuffle their Gladiator Beast into their deck , and special summon one from yours.

You dun need Heraklinos to beat Phoenix, its just overkill. Normal GB is enough to take them down

AG with Gravity Blaster works well, even if attacked in defense mode the cards will go into the deck. Another good tech card is 4 Star ladybug of doom, which will destroy most of their GBs except maybe Murmillo.

I run my choas Frognarch deck with 3 treeborns, 3 DMoC, 3 Angmar, 3 Screech, 2 Fanguang, 3 soul exchange, and 3 econ. As long as I get a frog into the circulation, i can just continue to use my opponents monsters as tributes via econ take and soul exchange. They either quit or run out of resources.

Am I the only one feeling the need to NERF those stupid phoenix users? I swear my GB can't win a single damn thing when NO BACKROWS. Lucky if there's a bunch of Ebola and FGTs I drew early, otherwise always doomed. Semi-limit Phoenix is for the best. Also curious, why need to nerf GB when Phoenix is so strong against it??? #braindead-nerfs

I would be impressed if you didn't use econs or flood, any regular deck with little skill can reach with patience, and... Bestiari needs to be limited, like were on TCG.

Phoenix is a bad matchup, but luckily most players are bad, so you can win easily by just outplaying them.

It's clear to me that you lack the intelligence to see how far a worm deck can go in the current meta. But I wouldn't expect less from a gladsfanboii. Not to mention the CA and the AG troops.

I used to see them when climbing the ladder. You're right they made it really far. Something like gold 2 or 3.

Profit(GB deck). Wait, did i miss skill? Yes, they have none. If they have it, it just in-game skill, that is mind scan.

Literally every deck has a deck that counters it. that's why "the meta" is a thing. if you don't like a deck, just wait a bit. It'll die out

Are this deck dead?

Dead ?? Hahaha I reached KOG very early this season (7 march) with my GB Deck
<< Anonymous
AK-47 Gold Reply
GB is definitely not dead yet. I reached KoG in just one day with this deck in March 15. Trunade is only good if you are using Cyber Angel or any monsters that have higher attacks on first turn. Drawing trunade is still based on luck winning. Unlike GB. the first turn you draw is always 100% luck. . .
<< Anonymous
Bruno Reply
No its not dead, but GB dont have ways to survive the massive destruction effects of new decks...its sad but GB is good but not against the actual meta, mayber if Gyzarus get released they back to tier list

dead from meta, trunade gb, when i see a gb it's autowin ^^

nerf this piece of shit deck, it takes no skill to play.
<< Anonymous
Someone Reply
Lets be honest, most meta decks (and burn) are dependent upon heavy backrow. Without this, these deck cant even survive a turn and pull their combo. Not that I hate GB or Six Sams or whatever, but this is the truth of nowadays meta :/

Mind scan = cheat. It needs a BIG nerf.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Even if mind scan is quite cheating, think about your starting hand. I for myself play mind scan with gladiator beast too but not this kind of deck, and it's not consistent because sometimes you'll brick your hand ,ex: hand full of monster or full of s/t. or if you're lucky, you've got a balance about those cards. and remember, the nerf they should do is limit the use of floodgate trap hole
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Lol you know you would likely bricks with mind scan, still playing with that skill? Is it that hard to play without it? Play gb that only rely on good back row to succeed but scared to other people back row. Pathetic
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
The guy above me nailed it.
Anonymous
I want to build a GB deck: Should I reset the box now? or Should I try to get 1 of the GB fusion and 1 of the impenetrable attack?
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Each backrow option has different pros/cons for GB. Impenetrable Attack guarantees your monsters get cycled in and out but can sometimes be obvious to your opponent when they see that you can only activate your backrow card once the battle phase starts. Things like WoD and MW are sometimes less expected than IA, ECon, and half shut, and your opponent might lose a monster from attacking
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
That's why you keep your toggle on "off" until you need your traps.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
My pleasure to duel with you anon, let's take a look how far you can get with your GB deck. I will also use my GB deck so we both know what we really need between our GB decks. If you agree then please let me know. I will wait your reply on thia comment.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Try aim for at least one of the fusions as they are a must since the sr fusion can stop monster effects like man eater while attacking, 3 impenetrable attack is a real tech in a gb deck but 3 half shuts are good, especially when against sergeant electro or mirage dragon
