How to get drop skills

What drop skills are

Some skills are obtainable as drops from Legendary Duelists from the gate or the ones that appear in Duel World, the skills that you can get are random from character exclusive skills, such as "Destiny Draw" of Yami Yugi and "Harpie's Hunting Ground" of Mai, to common skill drops, such as "LP Boost" skills and "Draw Sense" skills, that all characters can get.

Which duelists to farm

Lvl 40 Rex is the best!

You can fight any Legendary Duelists (LD) to get a chance to drop skills, the easiest ones being Tea Gardner, Weevil Underwood, Rex Raptor or Odion. Additionally it's better to duel against the lvl 40s since the chance of getting better cards, gems and skills are higher compared to the lower lvls. Rex is considered the easiest because he doesn't have any attack increasing cards other than his field spell, and most of his monsters have only about 1800 attack.

LDs you may avoid

Some Legendary Duelists like Kaiba, Joey, Bandit Keith or Ishizu are known to be difficult to farm, especially if you are using standard farming deck using cerberus.

Be careful on spending Gate Keys

Keep in mind that the colored gate keys, other than white, are used by 2 characters. If you plan on choosing one then make sure that you check the other character to see if you want to get a specific card from them, so that you don't end up using all of that colored key.
→ Details of Gate Key

Character featured events are chances!

There have been multiple event featured in the game, and during those event periods, players can challenge them without spending Gate Keys! The GameA website also shows decks to farm those LDs for a limited time with no set skill.

PvP Duels

There's also a chance for a skill to drop when you play PvP. This only applies to Ranked Duels, and Casual Duels. Friend Duels won't give you any rewards. This can be a better option sometimes if you are low on keys, or don't want to spend any, and you can keep dueling other players without a limit. The common strategy that people like to do is to go to Casual Duels using decks that causes them to lose the duels fast, or simply keep passing the turns until your opponent beats you.

Decks to farm skills

The main thing that you'll want to achieve is a high score, and can farm fast and consistently. Cerberus decks are often used due to how easy it is to get attack more than 9999 damage which gives 3000 pts, and the cards needed in a Cerberus decks aren't difficult to obtain.
→ How to get a high score

High Score Scorpion

I strongly recommend you to use this deck for the following three points:

  • No card from booster packs needed.
  • Can get around 6,000 score against Rex stably.
  • No skill is required that means you can use any character with this deck.

Deck recipe is currently in progress. Stay tuned!

High Score Cerberus

Basically your Yami Yugi, Weevil Underwood, and a character who has already acquired drop "Draw Sense: Light" skill, can handle a deck with cerberus and put 19 spell cards which includes stop defense works. Their "Sorcery Conduit" skill and "Draw Sense: Low-Level" skill allows you to get the monster to your hand. This is known to be an easy way to achieve a high score.
→ High Score Cerberus: deck recipe

Tethys deck

Tethys deck can be used to farm easily farmable LDs like Rex Raptor pretty fast and consistently, and it also doesn't require any character specific skills so you can use it on any characters. Unfortunately, Tethys was only available through an event, but if there are future obtainable ways and you get 1 or 2 copies of her, you can use her in the Tethys fairy deck for skill farming.

Other useful cards

If you don't have cerberus or scorpion then you can use any cards that can increase your attack points endlessly like Mystical Beast of Serket, Guardian Baou or Piercing Moray + Jam Breeding Machine. This will need to be used in a different deck using fusion summon, ritual summon and other ways to get a higher score.

Skills to aim for

While the character exclusive skills aren't a necessary thing to have, some skills are really good depending on your deck and some are fun to use.

I'm starting to think GX characters cant gain skills from dueling Rex 40-done 1716 games with Jaden and reached over 8000+ and not gained a single skill yet? Can any one else confirm if this is the case?

my statistics of total 40 duels with only 6 skill is less than half of Japan site claiming 20 duels with 8 skill.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
FYI, the Japan site said for 20 duels of 8 rewards: LV40 drop 8 skill which LV30 drop 3 skill so it is better to do LV40. However, the drop rate is marginally different and there is huge chance of mere statistic phenomenon since sample not large and it is highly probable to be character dependent. Rival characters may be better.

Its just rnd dudes. Just farm all the lds when you see them. Why bother with such statistics? My suggestion is don't farm for the sake of getting skill, just aim for the loot.

Japan site drop rate for 20duels 8 rewards:LV20:0; Lv10:1; and conclude that LV40 is best. However, statistic inference from small sample like this is not reliable. No one has such a lot keys to do big sample. I later add Pegasus vs Keith30 test result. Not much keys left.
Hello, can i still drop skills after my character is MAX level ?

No, get rare Drops is better with LD lv40 because you need get a ¨Rainbow chest¨ and you get easier Rainbow chest with LD lv 40.

I've seen just common sense in the comments so far. The guy wants to know the % of drop @ lvls 10, 20, 30, 40 so he can evaluate the cost/benefict of farming the duelist @ X lvl. That's it.
<< Anonymous(Mihawk)
J Reply
the drop rate of farming lvl 40 LD is 4.xx% and if you farm lv 30 duelists it's about a 1% chance (for each chest)
in the subreddit is a guy who collected the data of over 500 duels against lv 30 and 40 LDs
Now I use this deck to farm. It is still incomplete but it served me well as it is.

This is a Osiris infinite cards deck. In this case it is essential.
I used this for farming quick 3000-4000 points.

Here's how it works:

-You main objective is to get Trinity on the field ASAP while your opponent controls monster(s).
-Blazeman, Vyon, and Woodsman are your main Poly searchers. I don't recommend Fusion sage b/c the cards I mentioned can be used for Trinity, and it's a dead card if you have Poly at the beginning.

NOTE: You need to use real money for the other 2 Blazemen which add consistency.
<< Anonymous(RR)
RR Reply
-Phantom of Chaos: With 3 Woodsman and 1 Vyon, this card is great to search these. Only 1 PoC is needed b/c is not a HERO card.
-I like Lady Heat b/c she can deal finishing burn damage in case OP survived and low on LP.
-Skills Dark sense and fire sense are great. For fire sense, you need to remove fire m. like Lady card so you only search Blazeman.
<< Anonymous(RR)
RR Reply
-I got 1 H Heated for piercing damage, but I don't wait to draw. I will use it if I have it in starting hand. Sometimes, I switch it for Anti-Magic Arrows depending on the event.
-Only 1 Trinity is needed. I got 2 for 2 Vyons and was about to get 3 but Vyon got Limited.
-I forgot to remove Necroshade. It won't help you with Dark sense because it can't search Poly.
<< Anonymous(RR)
RR Reply
-You can use any other HERO card as filler, gloosy/prismatic recommended for extra points.
-I almost forgot. I have used this deck in almost every event. So far, it has been very usable for quick points as I can play when nothing is happening at work. No need to wait 10 minutes or anything. Plus deck is very consistent.
Which is the best generic skill? Is it Destiny Draw? Or The Tie That Binds? Or are there any other good generic skills that you could recommend?
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
And yeah, Destiny Draw is still very good to this day.

The Tie That Binds is less useful since it's just a minor ATK boost, but sometimes that's all you need, so it's good too sometimes, I guess. Depending on your deck.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
I'd say the field spells can also be good but they're probably not that generic anymore.

Beatdown is great if you're able to summon a bunch of strong monsters and try an OTK but it's only once per duel.

Grit is also still decent but the drawback makes it less generic.

Also: Everything from the comments above is decent.

Someone seemingly had the same question in mind:
Getting skills is the single worst part of this game. I hate farming for these skills. The game is determined to make sure you never get skills, and if you get a skill at all, the game makes sure you get either a pathetic skill like draw fire or a duplicate skill. The worst part: the odds of getting skills feel like less than 1/1000%!!!!! I mean I'm all for having a challenge at getting the best skills, BUT HOLY S**T DID KONAMI GO WAYYY TOOO FAR WITH THIS!! I've only gotten 2 exclusive skill drops, and some characters I can't get skill drops for at all. It doesn't even matter if I'm using a farming deck. The game just says LOL NO SKILLS FOR YOU, and then I've gotta do the key collectithon all over again, which by the way, THE GAME MAY NOT DECIDE TO GIVE YOU ANY KEYS!!!!!N t

Totally! They're probably the best way to get them without spending your keys.
I made a deck specifically for farming skill drops. Pricey but it works. Consistent 5k-6k+ scores. Works pretty much on any duelists and you don't need any skills. Rex is the best to farm though with this deck, since he's the easiest of all the legendary duelists.
I put in kuriboh, etaqua, mirror, and water balloons to stall.

If you don't have those pricey cards you can just use metamorph, etaqua and embodiment which you get from level rewards. Enemy controller works too.

Kuriboh - can be replace with Econ, etaqua, or embodiment
Mirror wall - can be replace by metamorph
2x moray - you need to must have atleast one moray. I have 2 because I happened to have 2. I want consistent draws. I've only use painful escape maybe once or twice so far.
2x yomi ships - can be replace by needle or any water monsters. I have 2 because I want to get rid of his high beatstick.
1x kaiser - have this cuz of its high atk and is water, can be replace by any water monsters or hunter with 7 weapons.
2x - jam breeding machines. You need to must have at least one for this deck. 2 for consistent.
1x balloons - can win you the match such a good card. Can be replace by any equip spells or umi.
I'll probably migh replace it for 2nd balloons though, but surprisingly I've been drawing umi consistently so I'm keeping it for now and you don't want to discard those water monsters so.
Micro ray - this is a good card if you want to get high assessments, if you don't have this you can replace it with riyoko and combo it with either stop defense or etaqua. Rex will have at least one face up monster. He use that trap card "Fossil Excavation".

There you go. Feel free to give suggestions and share this deck with others. I'm glad to help fellow duelists.

Great deck! I have a similar deck using Piercing Morays. My issue is when I draw the slime breeding machines before the morays which is when I have trouble. At that time though, I had o wonder balloons or kuribohs s I guess that makes up for it

@Lady- you dont need them it just there to stall. You can replace it with 2nd water balloon, etaqua, econ, kuriboh, half shut, or anything that can stall.

I just nuked 5k color gems on lvl 40 duelists, 90% of which were 8k+ score wins, and all I got were 2 Draw Sense skills.

Just get up to a rank where you can’t get demoted from (bronze 1, silver 1, etc) and use an auto loss deck

No need for auto loss deck. Just disconnect (don't surrender) and you will still get the accessment point.
now the question is what has a higher chance
ranked duels or LD or the same

Same as anon said, nowdays, ranked and casual duel are better&faster to collect skills, because i intentionally tried to got all the skills for jesse since i obtain him, just only with farming a LD at the gate, and i think i spend around 1k of each colored gate keys to finally obtain all of the skill.
