Lightsworn: deck recipe [Sept 18]

Duel Links Lightsworn deck, Lightsworn in the current meta, how to use.
Duel Links Breaking News
36th Mini Box: Idea of Armageddon
update 18/09/2021

Overview

The “Lightsworn” archetype revolves around milling, meaning sending cards from the top of the Deck to the Graveyard. The vast majority of “Lightsworn” monsters mill a number of cards during the End Phase of their controller’s turn and/or can generally benefit from this mechanic. Fueling the graveyard will help summon the deck's boss monster, whether it's Chaos Dragon Levianeer or Judgment Dragon.

How To Play

Chaos Levianeer

Chaos Dragon Levianeer
Chaos Dragon Levianeer
DARK Dragon ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 0
Selection Box Vol. 02 Mini [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 3 LIGHT and/or DARK monsters from your GY. When Summoned this way: You can activate this effect; apply the following effect, based on the Attribute(s) of the monsters banished for the Special Summon, also this card cannot attack for the rest of this turn.
● Only LIGHT: Special Summon 1 monster from your GY in Defense Position.
● Only DARK: Shuffle 1 random card from your opponent's hand into the Deck.
● Both LIGHT and DARK: Destroy up to 2 cards on the field.
You can only use this effect of "Chaos Dragon Levianeer" once per turn.

Chaos Dragon Levianeer is an excellent boss monster in this deck due to its ease of summoning. The “Lightsworn” engine is well-known for its quick graveyard setup. In a deck such as this using both LIGHT and DARK monsters you will almost always have the means to summon one or even multiple Levianeer.

Levianeer is a good generic boss monster for any LIGHT and DARK deck because of its high attack stat and multi-card removal. You should always choose the removal effect among Levianeer's effects. Additionally, Levianeer's stats allow you to search it with The Melody of Awakening Dragon for added consistency.

Keep in mind that you'll need to banish a mix of LIGHT and DARK in order to get the non targeting destruction effect. Most of the Lightsworns are LIGHT, so you'll need to watch out for the non Lightsworn cards sent into the grave.

Anti-OTK

Get these monsters in your graveyard with the Lightsworn mill engine. From there Stegocyber and Bacon Saver can protect you from enemy OTKs.

Furthermore, Stegocyber and Bacon Saver being DARK attributes gives them additional utility as cost for Levianeer's summoning, provided you do not use their graveyard effects. Do this if you decide to go on the offensive while they are still in your graveyard.

Bacon Saver
Bacon Saver
DARK Zombie ★2
ATK 700 / DEF 600
Generation Next [R]
During either player's Battle Step, while an attack is occurring: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; negate the attack. You can only use the effect of "Bacon Saver" once per Duel.
Stegocyber
Stegocyber
DARK Dinosaur ★6
ATK 1200 / DEF 2400
Tyranno Hassleberry Unlock Event [UR]
During your opponent's turn, at damage calculation, if this card is in your Graveyard: You can pay 1000 LP; Special Summon it, and if you do, you take no battle damage from that battle, and banish this card when it leaves the field (this is a Quick Effect). You can only use this effect of "Stegocyber" once per turn.

Load Graveyard

Charge of the Light Brigade and Solar Recharge are better at setting up your graveyard than the Lightsworn monsters for two reasons. Firstly, aside from milling, they let you dig further into your deck by searching and drawing. Secondly, they mill during the Main Phase, while most Lightsworn monsters mill during the End Phase. This lets you make use of the milled cards on the same turn.

Some reasons why you would want to mill during your Main Phase include:

  • Using milled monsters as summoning cost for Levianeer.
  • Getting Plaguespreader Zombie or Glow-Up Bulb in the graveyard for quick Synchro plays.
  • Getting Raiden in the graveyard as revival target for Lumina.

Synchro Summoning

Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner
Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner
LIGHT Spellcaster ★3
ATK 1000 / DEF 1000
Judgement Force [R]
Once per turn: You can discard 1 card, then target 1 Level 4 or lower "Lightsworn" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target. During each of your End Phases: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Use Lumina’s effect to Special Summon Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn (Level 4 Tuner), and then Summon a Level 7 Synchro from your Extra Deck.

Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn
Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn
LIGHT Warrior ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 1000
Judgement Force [SR]
During your Main Phase: You can send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard, then if any "Lightsworn" monsters were sent to the Graveyard by this effect, this card gains 200 ATK until the end of your opponent's turn. You can only use this effect of "Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn" once per turn. Once per turn, during your End Phase: Send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Before using Raiden as Synchro Material, you can activate its effect and send 2 more cards from the top of your Deck to the Graveyard. This will give you a higher chance of sending Bacon or Stegocyber.

Tuners

Excluding Raiden, the Tuners in this deck have the ability to revive themselves. With the Lightsworn mill engine, this gives you access to Synchro plays on-demand. Additionally, Glow-Up Bulb lets you further mill from your deck.

Jet Synchron
Jet Synchron
FIRE Machine ★1
ATK 500 / DEF 0
Aerial Assault [UR]
If this card is sent to the Graveyard as a Synchro Material: You can add 1 "Junk" monster from your Deck to your hand. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can send 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard; Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use 1 "Jet Synchron" effect per turn, and only once that turn.
Glow-Up Bulb
Glow-Up Bulb
EARTH Plant ★1
ATK 100 / DEF 100
Judgement Force [UR]
If this card is in the Graveyard: You can send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard, and if you do, Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "Glow-Up Bulb" once per Duel.

Lumina, Twilightsworn Shaman

Lumina, Twilightsworn Shaman
Lumina, Twilightsworn Shaman
DARK Spellcaster
ATK 1000 / DEF 1000
Blair Flannigan Event [UR]
Once per turn: You can banish 1 "Lightsworn" monster from your hand or GY, then target 1 of your banished "Lightsworn" monsters, except "Lumina, Twilightsworn Shaman"; Special Summon it. Once per turn, if your other "Lightsworn" monster's effect is activated: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the GY.

The Twilightsworn lumina lets you revive banished Lightsworn monsters. This will usually be used to bring back monsters banished as cost for summoning Levianeer. You can also bring back a Lightsworn monster banished by Twilightsworn Ryko.

Extra Decks

Your Synchro toolbox will consist of levels varying from 7 to 9 but will mostly focus on level-7 Synchros. Additionally, most of them will have removal effects to further facilitate board control and OTKs alongside Levianeer.

Level-7 Synchros are made by reviving Raiden with Lumina's effect. Among them, Fortune Lady Every is an excellent choice for board control because of her free non-targeting, non-destruction, banishing removal. She also gets stronger the longer she stays on the field, putting further pressure on the opponent. Lastly, every Lumina in your graveyard will let Fortune Lady Every revive another time.

Fortune Lady Every
Fortune Lady Every
LIGHT Spellcaster ★7
ATK ? / DEF ?
Valhalla Calling [SR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner Spellcaster monsters
This card's ATK/DEF become its Level x 400. Once per turn, during your Standby Phase: Increase this card's Level by 1 (max. 12), then, you can banish 1 face-up monster your opponent controls. During your opponent's End Phase, if this card is in your GY: You can banish 1 other Spellcaster monster from your GY; Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "Fortune Lady Every" once per turn.
Black Rose Dragon
Black Rose Dragon
FIRE Dragon ★7
ATK 2400 / DEF 1800
Blazing Rose [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can destroy all cards on the field. Once per turn: You can banish 1 Plant-Type monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 Defense Position monster your opponent controls; change that target to face-up Attack Position, and if you do, its ATK becomes 0 until the end of this turn.

Summon Black Rose Dragon to get rid of your opponent's entire board setup.

PSY-Framelord Zeta
PSY-Framelord Zeta
LIGHT Psychic ★7
ATK 2500 / DEF 1800
Future Horizon [R]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can target 1 Special Summoned monster your opponent controls in face-up Attack Position; banish both that monster and this card from the field, but return them in your next Standby Phase. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can target 1 other "PSY-Frame" card in your Graveyard; return this card to the Extra Deck, and if you do, add that target to your hand.

A safe turn 1 monster to summon other than Fortune Lady Every. Most strong monsters are special summoned, so you can banish this and your opponent's monster to negate an attack. Alternatively, you can banish your opponent's special summoned monster to prevent them from performing a synchro summon or XYZ summon.

Michael, the Arch-Lightsworn
Michael, the Arch-Lightsworn
LIGHT Dragon ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 2000
Judgement Force [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner LIGHT monsters
Once per turn: You can pay 1000 LP, then target 1 card on the field; banish that target. When this card is destroyed: You can target any number of other "Lightsworn" monsters in your Graveyard; shuffle them into the Deck, and if you do, you gain 300 LP for each returned card. Once per turn, during your End Phase: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Keeping in theme with the board control aspect of this deck, Michael gives you non-destruction banishing removal at the cost of 1000LP. This bypasses effects that protect from destruction while also costing you no card resources to activate.

You might want to be careful with the second effect since, while returning cards to the Deck will prevent you from decking out, it also will eliminate some, if not all, of your resources.

Battlewasp - Hama the Conquering Bow
Battlewasp - Hama the Conquering Bow
WIND Insect ★8
ATK 2800 / DEF 2000
Witchs Sorcery [UR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters
If this card was Synchro Summoned using a Synchro Monster as material, it can make a second attack during each Battle Phase. You can only use each of the following effects of "Battlewasp - Hama the Conquering Bow" once per turn.
● When this card inflicts battle damage to your opponent: You can make all monsters your opponent currently controls lose 1000 ATK/DEF.
● At the end of your Battle Phase, if your opponent has not taken any battle damage this Phase: You can inflict 300 damage to your opponent for each "Battlewasp" monster in your GY.

Hama is good for pushing damage, especially when summoned using a Synchro monster as material. Good as a follow up after synchro summoning a level 7, use Glow up Bulb or Jet Synchron for a potential OTK.

Vermillion Dragon Mech
Vermillion Dragon Mech
FIRE Machine ★9
ATK 2700 / DEF 1800
Blazing Rose [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn: You can banish 1 Tuner from your hand, field, or Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of your banished Tuners; add it to your hand.

Banish Raiden as cost for Vermillion Mech's removal effect and then revive that Raiden with Twilightsworn Lumina's effect. This lets you extend your Synchro combo while also getting rid of an opponent's card.

Samurai Destroyer
Samurai Destroyer
EARTH Machine ★7
ATK 2600 / DEF 1400
Dark Dimension [R]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters
If this card battles an opponent's monster, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects until the end of the Damage Step, also that opponent's monster has its effects negated during the Battle Phase only. If this face-up card in its owner's control leaves the field because of an opponent's card effect: You can target 1 Machine monster in your GY; Special Summon it.

Useful to prevent monster effects involving a battle. Only works when attacking a monster, not when direct attacking.

Other Cards Option

Plaguespreader Zombie
Plaguespreader Zombie
DARK Zombie ★2
ATK 400 / DEF 200
Curse of Dread [UR]
If this card is in your Graveyard: You can place 1 card from your hand on the top of the Deck; Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field.

A tuner that can be special summoned from the grave like Jet Synchron. Being a level 2 can make things awkward since you'll want to focus on the Raiden and Lumina combo for a level 7 instead, but being a DARK element is good for Levianeer as well.

Judgment Dragon

Judgment Dragon
Judgment Dragon
LIGHT Dragon ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 2600
Judgement Force [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by having 4 or more "Lightsworn" monsters with different names in your Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. You can pay 1000 Life Points; destroy all other cards on the field. During each of your End Phases: Send the top 4 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Compared to Levianeer, this gives your opponent more ways to react since its effect does not activate on summon, and this summoning condition is more strict than Levianeer. For those reasons, Levianeer is better to use oftentimes. But Judgment Dragon is still good to consider, as long as you play plenty of different lightsworn monsters.

Chaos Sorcerer

Chaos Sorcerer
Chaos Sorcerer
DARK Spellcaster ★6
ATK 2300 / DEF 2000
Dark Dimension [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard. Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster on the field; banish that target. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.

Not a bad monster to bring, and can combo into a level 7 using any of the graveyard level 1 tuners. But Chaos Sorcerer has no graveyard effect, so it's better to bring cards that are useful when you get it in hand and when it's milled.

Eclipse Wyvern

Eclipse Wyvern
Eclipse Wyvern
LIGHT Dragon ★4
ATK 1600 / DEF 1000
Valiant Souls [UR]
If this card is sent to the Graveyard: Banish 1 Level 7 or higher LIGHT or DARK Dragon-Type monster from your Deck. If this card is banished from your Graveyard: You can add the monster banished by this card's effect to your hand.

Can act as a searcher for any of your high level boss monsters, which Levianeer and Judgment Dragon are. Unfortunately, it's kind of useless in the hand, and its mill effect needs to be manually triggered by using other ways to banish it from grave. This can end up forcing you to synchro into something you don't need, like Shiranui Squiresaga.

Other Lightsworn Monsters

Lyla, Twilightsworn Enchantress
Lyla, Twilightsworn Enchantress
DARK Spellcaster ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 200
Blair Flannigan Unlock Event [SR]
Once per turn, when a Spell/Trap Card or effect is activated (Quick Effect): You can banish 1 "Lightsworn" monster from your hand or GY, then target 1 face-up Spell/Trap on the field; destroy it. Once per turn, if your other "Lightsworn" monster's effect is activated: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the GY.

Spell/trap destruction only works on face-up cards, already making it not as versatile. The effect of milling is also more difficult than just focusing on Lumina Raiden combo.

Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress
Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress
LIGHT Spellcaster ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 200
Primal Burst [UR]
You can target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; this card's battle position cannot be changed until the end of your next turn, also change this card you control from face-up Attack Position to face-up Defense Position, and if you do, destroy that target. Once per turn, during your End Phase: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Useful against opponents that uses plenty of back row cards, but it doesn't activate on summon, making it more easily disruptable by your opponent. If it gets hit with a Floodgate or Book of Moon, you'll end up losing on the milling effect.

Felis, Lightsworn Archer
Felis, Lightsworn Archer
LIGHT Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 1100 / DEF
Judgement Force [R]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned by a card effect, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. If this card is sent from your Deck to the Graveyard by a monster effect: Special Summon it. You can Tribute this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; destroy that target, then send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Definitely useful when it works, but it can be a little unreliable. It messes up your hand if you happen to draw it, but the special summon effect for a free destruction is certainly nice.

Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden
Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden
LIGHT Spellcaster ★3
ATK 800 / DEF 200
Judgement Force [N]
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 LIGHT Dragon-Type monster from your Deck to your hand, whose Level is less than or equal to the total number of "Lightsworn" monsters with different names in your Graveyard. If this card is sent from your hand or Deck to the Graveyard: Send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard. During each of your End Phases: Send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Its main effect will almost never see use since it's very conditional to use as a reliable search for Judgment Dragon / Levianeer. Mainly used for the additional milling effect when it gets sent to the grave.

Other Twilightsworn Monsters

Ryko, Twilightsworn Fighter
Ryko, Twilightsworn Fighter
DARK Beast ★2
ATK 200 / DEF 100
Blair Flannigan Lvl 14, 23, and 33 [SR]
If this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up: You can banish 1 "Lightsworn" monster from your hand or GY; banish 1 card on the field. Once per turn, if your other "Lightsworn" monster's effect is activated: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the GY.

Ryko, Twilightsworn Fighter has the ability to banish any card on the field without targeting or destroying. This is good for getting rid of problematic monsters such as Invoked Cocytus and Shiranui Sunsaga. The fact Ryko is searchable by Charge of the Light Brigade makes it an even more versatile removal card.

I hope Konami limit Charge of the Light Brigade just one, this card is so broken. Ridiculus to nerf all meta decks and release this garbage.

The problem is that not nerfing existing meta deck means that you won't spend money on purchasing new meta decks like Lightsworn. Then they won't be able to pay their employees to make even newer meta decks to replace the older new meta that you recently purchased.

Umm. . . you sure about that? The Twilightsworns are corrupted versions of the Lightsworns, yes, due to the Dark World monsters. Both the Lightsworns and the Darklords are based on Christianity, but that’s where the similarities end. The darklords have to do with the Solemn traps and Forbidden spells, lore wise.
