Lightsworn: deck recipe [Mar 20]

Duel Links Lightsworn deck, Lightsworn in the current meta, how to use.
update 20/03/2023

Overview

The “Lightsworn” archetype revolves around milling, meaning sending cards from the top of the Deck to the Graveyard. The vast majority of “Lightsworn” monsters mill a number of cards during the End Phase of their controller’s turn and/or can generally benefit from this mechanic. Fueling the graveyard will help summon the deck's boss monster, whether it's Chaos Dragon Levianeer or Judgment Dragon.

How To Play

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning

Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
LIGHT Warrior ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 2500
Selection Box Vol.05 [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard. Once per turn, you can activate 1 of these effects.

● Target 1 monster on the field; banish that target face-up. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.
● If this attacking card destroys an opponent's monster by battle, after damage calculation: It can make a second attack in a row.

Easily special summonable in this deck since there are LIGHT (Lightsworn/Blue-Eyes Monsters) and DARK (Twilightsworn Monsters/Sphere Kuriboh). Its effect is pretty decent for either monster removal or as an OTK option.

Chaos Levianeer

Chaos Dragon Levianeer
Chaos Dragon Levianeer
DARK Dragon ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 0
Selection Box Vol. 02 Mini [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 3 LIGHT and/or DARK monsters from your GY. When Summoned this way: You can activate this effect; apply the following effect, based on the Attribute(s) of the monsters banished for the Special Summon, also this card cannot attack for the rest of this turn.
● Only LIGHT: Special Summon 1 monster from your GY in Defense Position.
● Only DARK: Shuffle 1 random card from your opponent's hand into the Deck.
● Both LIGHT and DARK: Destroy up to 2 cards on the field.
You can only use this effect of "Chaos Dragon Levianeer" once per turn.

Chaos Dragon Levianeer is an excellent boss monster in this deck due to its ease of summoning. The “Lightsworn” engine is well-known for its quick graveyard setup. In a deck such as this using both LIGHT and DARK monsters you will almost always have the means to summon one or even multiple Levianeer.

Levianeer is a good generic boss monster for any LIGHT and DARK deck because of its high attack stat and multi-card removal. You should always choose the removal effect among Levianeer's effects. Additionally, Levianeer's stats allow you to search it with The Melody of Awakening Dragon for added consistency.

Keep in mind that you'll need to banish a mix of LIGHT and DARK in order to get the non targeting destruction effect. Most of the Lightsworns are LIGHT, so you'll need to watch out for the non Lightsworn cards sent into the grave.

This legendary dragon is a powerful engine of destruction. Virtually invincible, very few have faced this awesome creature and lived to tell the tale.

LIGHT Dragon ★1
ATK 600 / DEF 500
Lords of Shining [UR]
Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this card is in the Graveyard because it was sent there this turn: You can Special Summon 1 "Blue-Eyes" monster from your Deck. You can banish this card from your Graveyard, then target 1 "Blue-Eyes" monster in your Graveyard; add it to your hand. You can only use this effect of "The White Stone of Ancients" once per turn.
Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon
Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon
LIGHT Dragon ★9
ATK 2500 / DEF 3000
Judgement Force [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner "Blue-Eyes" monsters
Neither player can Special Summon 2 or more monsters at the same time. Once per turn, during either player's turn, when an effect of a card in the Graveyard is activated: You can negate the activation. During either player's turn: You can Tribute this Synchro Summoned card; Special Summon 1 LIGHT Dragon-Type Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck in Defense Position, except "Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon", but destroy it during the End Phase of this turn.

Synchro Summoning

Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner
Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner
LIGHT Spellcaster ★3
ATK 1000 / DEF 1000
Judgement Force [R]
Once per turn: You can discard 1 card, then target 1 Level 4 or lower "Lightsworn" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target. During each of your End Phases: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Use Lumina’s effect to Special Summon Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn (Level 4 Tuner), and then Summon a Level 7 Synchro from your Extra Deck.

Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn
Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn
LIGHT Warrior ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 1000
Judgement Force [SR]
During your Main Phase: You can send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard, then if any "Lightsworn" monsters were sent to the Graveyard by this effect, this card gains 200 ATK until the end of your opponent's turn. You can only use this effect of "Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn" once per turn. Once per turn, during your End Phase: Send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Before using Raiden as Synchro Material, you can activate its effect and send 2 more cards from the top of your Deck to the Graveyard. This will give you a higher chance of sending Bacon or Stegocyber.

Ryko, Twilightsworn Fighter

Ryko, Twilightsworn Fighter
Ryko, Twilightsworn Fighter
DARK Beast ★2
ATK 200 / DEF 100
Blair Flannigan Lvl 14, 23, and 33 [SR]
If this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face-up: You can banish 1 "Lightsworn" monster from your hand or GY; banish 1 card on the field. Once per turn, if your other "Lightsworn" monster's effect is activated: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the GY.

Ryko, Twilightsworn Fighter has the ability to banish any card on the field without targeting or destroying. This is good for getting rid of problematic monsters such as Invoked Cocytus and Shiranui Sunsaga. The fact Ryko is searchable by Charge of the Light Brigade makes it an even more versatile removal card.

Anti-OTK

Get these monsters in your graveyard with the Lightsworn mill engine. From there Stegocyber and Sphere Kuribog can protect you from enemy OTKs.

Furthermore, Sphere Kuriboh and Bacon Saver being DARK attributes gives them additional utility as cost for BLS and Levianeer's summoning, provided you do not use their graveyard effects. Do this if you decide to go on the offensive while they are still in your graveyard.

Bacon Saver
Bacon Saver
DARK Zombie ★2
ATK 700 / DEF 600
Generation Next [R]
During either player's Battle Step, while an attack is occurring: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; negate the attack. You can only use the effect of "Bacon Saver" once per Duel.
Sphere Kuriboh

DARK Fiend ★1
ATK 300 / DEF 200
The Ultimate Rising [UR]
Selection Box Vol. 01 [UR]
Special Set Bundle Sale [UR]
When an opponent's monster declares an attack: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; change the attacking monster to Defense Position. When you Ritual Summon a monster, you can banish this card from your Graveyard as 1 of the monsters required for the Ritual Summon.

Tuners

Glow-Up Bulb
Glow-Up Bulb
EARTH Plant ★1
ATK 100 / DEF 100
Judgement Force [UR]
If this card is in the Graveyard: You can send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard, and if you do, Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "Glow-Up Bulb" once per Duel.

Excluding Raiden, the Tuners in this deck have the ability to revive themselves. With the Lightsworn mill engine, this gives you access to Synchro plays on-demand. Additionally, Glow-Up Bulb lets you further mill from your deck.

Load Graveyard

Charge of the Light Brigade and Solar Recharge are better at setting up your graveyard than the Lightsworn monsters for two reasons. Firstly, aside from milling, they let you dig further into your deck by searching and drawing. Secondly, they mill during the Main Phase, while most Lightsworn monsters mill during the End Phase. This lets you make use of the milled cards on the same turn.

Some reasons why you would want to mill during your Main Phase include:

  • Using milled monsters as summoning cost for Levianeer.
  • Getting Glow-Up Bulb in the graveyard for quick Synchro plays.
  • Getting Raiden in the graveyard as revival target for Lumina.
Charge of the Light Brigade

Extra Decks

Your Synchro toolbox will consist of levels varying from 7 to 9 but will mostly focus on level-7 Synchros. Additionally, most of them will have removal effects to further facilitate board control and OTKs alongside Levianeer.

Vermillion Dragon Mech
Vermillion Dragon Mech
FIRE Machine ★9
ATK 2700 / DEF 1800
Blazing Rose [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn: You can banish 1 Tuner from your hand, field, or Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it. If this Synchro Summoned card is destroyed by card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of your banished Tuners; add it to your hand.

Banish Raiden as cost for Vermillion Mech's removal effect and then revive that Raiden with Twilightsworn Lumina's effect. This lets you extend your Synchro combo while also getting rid of an opponent's card.

Scrap Dragon
Scrap Dragon
EARTH Dragon ★8
ATK 2800 / DEF 2000
Valhalla Calling [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn: You can target 1 card you control and 1 card your opponent controls; destroy them. When this card is destroyed by your opponent's card (either by battle or by card effect) and sent to the Graveyard: Target 1 non-Synchro "Scrap" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target.

Scrap Dragon is a good beater with a 1-for-1 targeting removal effect.

Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon
Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon
FIRE Dragon ★7
ATK 2500 / DEF 2000
Force of Infinity [UR]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 card in your Pendulum Zone; Special Summon it, also this card cannot attack for the rest of this turn. You can only use this effect of "Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon" once per turn. Monsters in your opponent's possession cannot activate their effects during the Battle Phase.

Mainly to disable/prevent monster effects during your battle phase, which can prevent commonly used handtraps that often stalls the duel.

Fortune Lady Every
Fortune Lady Every
LIGHT Spellcaster ★7
ATK ? / DEF ?
Valhalla Calling [SR]
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner Spellcaster monsters
This card's ATK/DEF become its Level x 400. Once per turn, during your Standby Phase: Increase this card's Level by 1 (max. 12), then, you can banish 1 face-up monster your opponent controls. During your opponent's End Phase, if this card is in your GY: You can banish 1 other Spellcaster monster from your GY; Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "Fortune Lady Every" once per turn.

Level-7 Synchros are made by reviving Raiden with Lumina's effect. Among them, Fortune Lady Every is an excellent choice for board control because of her free non-targeting, non-destruction, banishing removal. She also gets stronger the longer she stays on the field, putting further pressure on the opponent. Lastly, every Lumina in your graveyard will let Fortune Lady Every revive another time.

PSY-Framelord Zeta
PSY-Framelord Zeta
LIGHT Psychic ★7
ATK 2500 / DEF 1800
Future Horizon [R]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can target 1 Special Summoned monster your opponent controls in face-up Attack Position; banish both that monster and this card from the field, but return them in your next Standby Phase. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can target 1 other "PSY-Frame" card in your Graveyard; return this card to the Extra Deck, and if you do, add that target to your hand.

A safe turn 1 monster to summon other than Fortune Lady Every. Most strong monsters are special summoned, so you can banish this and your opponent's monster to negate an attack. Alternatively, you can banish your opponent's special summoned monster to prevent them from performing a synchro summon or XYZ summon.

Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis
Hieratic Sun Dragon Overlord of Heliopolis
LIGHT Dragon ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 2500
Infinite Ray [UR]
2 Level 8 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Tribute any number of monsters from your hand and/or your side of the field (minimum 1), then destroy an equal number of cards on the field.
Link Disciple
Link Disciple
LIGHT Cyberse
ATK 500 / DEF 1
Link Revolution [R]
1 Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster
You can Tribute 1 monster this card points to; draw 1 card, then place 1 card from your hand on the bottom of the Deck. You can only use this effect of "Link Disciple" once per turn.

Link Disciple allows you to draw a card and cycle a card from your hand. It can also as a Filter Draw Strategy to tribute 1 monster this card points to; usually used to get rid of Knightmare Corruptor Iblee that was special summoned to your field by the opponent.

Other Cards Option

Judgment Dragon

Judgment Dragon
Judgment Dragon
LIGHT Dragon ★8
ATK 3000 / DEF 2600
Judgement Force [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by having 4 or more "Lightsworn" monsters with different names in your Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. You can pay 1000 Life Points; destroy all other cards on the field. During each of your End Phases: Send the top 4 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Compared to Levianeer, this gives your opponent more ways to react since its effect does not activate on summon, and this summoning condition is more strict than Levianeer. For those reasons, Levianeer is better to use oftentimes. But Judgment Dragon is still good to consider, as long as you play plenty of different lightsworn monsters.

Chaos Sorcerer

Chaos Sorcerer
Chaos Sorcerer
DARK Spellcaster ★6
ATK 2300 / DEF 2000
Dark Dimension [UR]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard. Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster on the field; banish that target. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.

Not a bad monster to bring, and can combo into a level 7 using any of the graveyard level 1 tuners. But Chaos Sorcerer has no graveyard effect, so it's better to bring cards that are useful when you get it in hand and when it's milled.

Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite

Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite
Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite
DARK Winged Beast ★4
ATK 1600 / DEF 1000
Aerial Assault [UR]
If this card is in your Graveyard: You can return 1 face-up card you control to the hand; Special Summon this card, and if you do, take 400 damage. You can only use this effect of "Blackwing - Zephyros the Elite" once per Duel.

Free monster to special summon if it ever gets into the graveyard. You can special summon Levianeer to use the destruction effect, then return it back to hand using Zephyros to re-summon Levianeer again. It won't be able to destroy your opponent's cards again, but at the very least it can attack for a potential OTK. Zephyros being a DARK element gives it an additional good reason to consider this because it can help summon Levianeer.

Other Lightsworn Monsters

Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress
Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress
LIGHT Spellcaster ★4
ATK 1700 / DEF 200
Primal Burst [UR]
You can target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; this card's battle position cannot be changed until the end of your next turn, also change this card you control from face-up Attack Position to face-up Defense Position, and if you do, destroy that target. Once per turn, during your End Phase: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Useful against opponents that uses plenty of back row cards, but it doesn't activate on summon, making it more easily disruptable by your opponent. If it gets hit with a Floodgate or Book of Moon, you'll end up losing on the milling effect.

Felis, Lightsworn Archer
Felis, Lightsworn Archer
LIGHT Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 1100 / DEF
Judgement Force [R]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned by a card effect, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. If this card is sent from your Deck to the Graveyard by a monster effect: Special Summon it. You can Tribute this card, then target 1 monster your opponent controls; destroy that target, then send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Definitely useful when it works, but it can be a little unreliable. It messes up your hand if you happen to draw it, but the special summon effect for a free destruction is certainly nice.

Wulf, Lightsworn Beast
Wulf, Lightsworn Beast
LIGHT Beast-Warrior ★4
ATK 2100 / DEF 300
Burning Nova [R]
Selection Box Vol.04 [R]
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned by a card effect, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. If this card is sent from your Deck to the Graveyard: Special Summon it.

Basically just a special summonable level 4 beater. It can become a dead card if you get it in hand so you can freely use it as the cost for Solar Recharge.

Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden
Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden
LIGHT Spellcaster ★3
ATK 800 / DEF 200
Judgement Force [N]
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 LIGHT Dragon-Type monster from your Deck to your hand, whose Level is less than or equal to the total number of "Lightsworn" monsters with different names in your Graveyard. If this card is sent from your hand or Deck to the Graveyard: Send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard. During each of your End Phases: Send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

Its main effect will almost never see use since it's very conditional to use as a reliable search for Judgment Dragon / Levianeer. Mainly used for the additional milling effect when it gets sent to the grave.

27 cards deck with 3 Judgement Dragon version is better than this one. Nuke the field for 1000LP and it is not limited to once per turn. Pretty consistent in KC

I just beat it just now this lightsworn you mention with my cheapest deck build but is still not at my satisfaction as is still an incomplete build. I 🔥 it quickly. If i delay any longer i might lose. The only thing i am afraid is a skill call grit & if the person have 2 kiteroid in hand or in grave while milling.

Can’t help but feel this archetype works better as an engine in hybrid builds rather than as a pure build.

Kinda like Invoked, Neos etc.

Yes, and no. It works well with other archetypes, but pure is decent. And Chaos is best, though technically still a hybrid.

according to the official lore, Lightsworns are actually a corrupted version of angels (Darklords) and call themselves LIGHT while being evil and degenerated.

Actual lore Reply
Umm. . . you sure about that? The Twilightsworns are corrupted versions of the Lightsworns, yes, due to the Dark World monsters. Both the Lightsworns and the Darklords are based on Christianity, but that’s where the similarities end. The darklords have to do with the Solemn traps and Forbidden spells, lore wise.

Lightsworns are interdimensional mercenaries who help people in need. Some were corrupted by the Dark Worlds not Dark Lords. The Dark Lord story line is unrelated.
