Soul Exchange

Soul Exchange
TypeSpell Card
Card Effect TypeCard effect / Condition

Target 1 monster your opponent controls; this turn, if you Tribute a monster, you must Tribute that monster, as if you controlled it. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this card.

How to get / Rarity

PackValkyrie's Rage [UR]
Level-up reward--
Victory against--
Card trader--

  • Makes 1 or 2 tribute monster much easier to do, while also destroying your opponent's monster as well.
  • Allows you to use opponent's monster without any type, level, element or any kind of restriction.

  • Essentially a dead card if you don't have a monster to tribute summon in your hand.
  • Can't attack the turn you use this card.

Legion the Fiend Jester can take advantage of this card, allowing you to destroy your opponent's monster, tribute summon a high level spellcaster monster in a turn, and it will also activate it's ability to get another card from your deck.

Use monsters that can be summoned with only 1 tribute so you don't have to sacrifice your own monster. Cards like Angel 07 and Teva can be very powerful and build quite an advantage.

Dude try again you have to do it up to 2 times in a row to make it work on silent magician because it's special...
<< Anonymous(Balerion)

I think Soul Exchange cannot work, try Enemy Controller, take his Silent Magician instead bro, works all the time.

Silent magician isn't effected by spells

Silent magician isn't affected by spell cards.
You can tribute an opponents level 8 monster for a level 6 unless they have a special ability that negates your 🔥.
This + Enemy Controller + Tribute Summoning = RIP

no you cant,
1. I did SE 1 of my opponent monster
2. I activate my e-con (effect no 2)
3. I couldn't tribute my opponent monster which I already hit by SE. The game only have option to tribute my own monster instead of the SE'ed monster

weird, can someone help me?
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
You have done it the wrong must first use your econ (effect2) then use SE because in SE text it has written that if you need to tribute a monster you MUST tribute that monster
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
You mean chain them together? Then that makes sense
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Yes chain them or use econ first

This card leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Even the top meta cards has a minor catch no matter how small they are. As for this card... : you get rid of a opponent monster and summon a stronger monster in exchange. Yes, the supposed "catch" is you cannot conduct your battle phase the same turn, but the damage is already done once tributed. A practicly guaranteed kill. I would never consider using this card for this reason.

The problem is not that it cannot be countered if the opponent happen to have the right counter at the right time, but its too strong on its own and gives a too big adventage without further combinations, except the 5+ star monster card.

I do hope this reaches the banned list if any. On the topic of extremely benefital cards I for one wish to see a expanded Limited list in a fiture, sooner than later. This one may get all the bans tho.

theres only like 2 decks in the game that run this card tho, and those aren't that great in the meta. soul exchange is good but its way too slow of a card to be limited
<< Anonymous(Emil J. (Mille91))
LUL Reply
u wot m8? This card is pretty much a dead card if you don't have anything to tribute and also can cause you to brick. Like the guy above said it's not even auto-included in every deck so why they need to limit this?
<< Anonymous(Emil J. (Mille91))
Anonymous Reply
🔥. you don't even know what you're talking about. This card get banned? not in a million years. Cards that require costs, toll, etc can at most be limited. E-con and SE are pale compared to Change of Hearts. So shut yer mouth.

If we get proper Monarch support in DL then you can complain about it being too strong. Until then, yeah, 🔥.
Warning, despite clear text implications of ritual cards using monsters as tribute, for whatever reason you can't use it in the same way in duel links, despite being a canon ruling. I tried this for my relinquished, the option didn't come up, despite the opponent having a face up applicable monster.

tl;dr can't be used to tribute opponents monsters in ritual summons, even though you actually can in the real game. It doesn't devalue the card too much, but it's irritating when it's something you SHOULD be allowed to do.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
this is because soul exchange clearly states that its only for TRIBUTE summons. yes, you tribute monsters for rituals, but those are RITUAL summons.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
That isn't the case at all. It works for any applicable Tribute. I'd guess in this case they were using Contract with the Abyss and the monster was above LV1.
<< Anonymous
yukicrewger2 Reply
it does not say its for a tribute summon. It just says for tribute. This means it should work on ritual summons, and even for effects that require you to tribute a monster to activate.

"this is because soul exchange clearly states that its only for TRIBUTE summons. "
Actually it does NOT "clearly state" that it's only for "tribute summons" you moron. It just says that if you tribute a monster. Not tribute summon it.
The second guy's comment below yours is correct. The tc 🔥 probably used a ritual card like contract with the abyss which has it's own rules and restrictions.
Iam notscared of this crap Riryoku field screws it every time
<< Anonymous(Markocr7)
Karl Reply
No, this card doesn't "target", so Riryoku Field won't work. It's also what makes this card so dangerous to Toon decks.

Who runs Riryoku Field nowadays?
<< Anonymous(Karl)
sjp91 Reply
You're probably thinking of the monarchs stormforth which is essentially a beefed up version of this card nor does it target and deserves to go to 0 due to having virtually no drawbacks
This card too op and there are so many who abuses this card. Esp those who have 3 se at their gk deck. Taking opponent card for sacrifice is already bad enough, shouldn't it be limited to affecting faceup card only?

Card should also be limited to 1 per deck.

Yes yugioh is a children game because of all these cards. They are not thinking hard when they create these.

It's just powercreep, SE is too low and easy to counter + no one use tribute summon anymore. So they made it and tribute Summon became META for awhile,
I finally get it... this was in the 3rd last pack, I DID IT ! (F2P)

You just finished wasting 10000 gems.
I caught myself in the same trap thinking the card was really good (I even went so far as to obtain THREE copies of it), and I ended up not using it at all due to being very slow (the drawback of not being able to attack the turn you use it is too excessive).

Unless you are specifically building a super expensive monarch deck, in which cause I don't feel bad because you're probably a whale anyway, but I doubt that's the case here since you specifically stated "F2P".

I mean during the Bakura event he was able to use it to activate ectoplasmer, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for ritual monsters. Feels like it would be stupid if it didn't.

yes it is. soul exchange can be used for ritual summon. i usually use it for Paladin White Dragon
It's a scary card, but that loss of a battle turn is the sole reason I personally prefer Limit Impulse.

Too many times I've watched someone Soul Exchange my monster, pass the turn, and then I Limit Impulse a bigger monster onto the field and destroy their monster, also, with Limit Impulse you do not need an opponent to have a monster on the field, you are 100% in control with Limit Impulse.
<< Anonymous(Slyphur)
Anonymous Reply
I feel like Limit Impulse costs too much for it's effect. A total of 4 cards for it to be useful seems pretty bad compared to Soul Exchange requiring only 2 doubling as a removal as well.
