Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress
Monster TypeSpellcaster
Card typeEffect
Card Effect TypeIgnition Effect / Trigger Effect

You can target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; this card's battle position cannot be changed until the end of your next turn, also change this card you control from face-up Attack Position to face-up Defense Position, and if you do, destroy that target. Once per turn, during your End Phase: Send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard.

How to Get

  • Able to destroy 1 Spell/Trap your opponent controls.
  • Decent ATK stats.

  • Effect can be too slow to activate, and requires switching to Defense position.
  • Weak DEF stats susceptible to position switching plays.
Requires you to discard 3 cards from your top deck to the Graveyard during each of your End Phase.

  • Generally her effects of destroying opponent’s Spell/Trap card are too slow compared to backrow removal cards that we already have in the current meta, such as Cosmic Cyclone, Nobleman of Extermination, and Gladiator Beast Bestiari’s effect.
  • Her effect also mills from your top deck, although it can help thining your deck, but you are not able to control this effect as it is a mandatory mill that may result in you decking out.
  • You can also choose to activate Forbidden Chalice during your End Phase, as a killswitch to stop the effect of sending 3 cards from your top deck to your Graveyard.

Since Saffira’s effect activates during your End Phase as well, and it requires LIGHT monsters to be sent to the graveyard, Lyla can provide a good synergy as it will send 3 cards from your top deck to the graveyard every End Phase. Jar of Avarice can return 5 cards from your Graveyard back to your deck and allows you to draw 1 card. Pot of Benevolence can return a total of 2 cards from either player’s Graveyard back to their deck, and shuffle the deck.

A Field Spell that gains Counter for every “Lightsworn” monster sent from the deck to the graveyard, and increases 100 ATK of your “Lightsworn” monster for every counter on this card. You can also remove 2 counters from this card to protect it from being destroyed.

So.. Lightsworn is kind of Jesus archetype since they all look holy and stuff with bible reference.

Do not forget that the authors of this game are Asians

Christianity is just a very exotic religion for them.
I remember there was a dragon type card which was part of the Lightsworn archetype, it was pretty op ! I wonder if it's released.

why not dude?

"it was pretty op"

isn't that clear enough

seriously, it's a 3k ATK monster that nuke everything except itself and still can attack afterwards, no way we'll ever get it in a 4k LP environment

How you phrase things can matter. That description applies to cards like Ocean Dragon Lord - Neo-Daedalus and Steelswarm Hercules, too. ;p

Granted, JD is too easy to use to be acceptable here. But still, just "3k nuke that can attack after" is a terrible argument.

"Judgement dragon? Hell no it won't be available"

And then we get 3 copies immediately due to it being released in a main box lol

Free backrow removal and also deck thinning.
rate 9/10
This card seems to be highly versatile cuz it can be used as a decent backrow removal and I've seen plenty of spellbook kog decks using it.

If I'm not wrong, 1st kog deck of the month had 2 copies of Lyla in it. So cool !
Well now I wonder if they are going to release Judgement dragon anytime soon, I loved that card in the TCG

too broken for this format
probably a must in spellbooks

Definetly not. Hit top 500 in region B without a single copy of it playing Spellbooks
Lightsworn self-mill deck will be the next meta

I have my doubts, we don't have Judgement Dragon nor Celestia, Lightsworn Angel. Wulf, lumina, and Ryko would also be nice. Otherwise lightsworn is just an engine without a trump card.
Since card is pretty trashy since we don't have a main phase 2 in this format.

This format is trash and breaks lot of decks. I wish we had the choice to duel with the real tcg rules or fast duel
Interesting.. I really like Lightsworn but I understand the doubts of any player. I think LS could be absolutely worthless or better than ever. You will not play this deck with 20 cards, but a LS deck with 30 Cards sounds good as well, probably it has a lot more consistency, but we will see.. One as a fact; LS will not work without their leading card (Judgment Dragon), whereas Gladi is still useful even without Gyzarus, so it depens on the implementation of JD..

I ran with a ratio of lightsworn and traps and used Odion endless trap to help the self mill and redraw traps from the grave. Was able to use the lightswarm combo to destroy opp. Tech in the needle sunfish and dark gilfried for weakening opp
Will we see 30 card decks ??? Probably not :(

30-card dicks r like the 80 card deck of the physical yugioh world, you kno the ones the morons who thought they were better than u just cause their dicks were bigger than urs
Lord Pancake
LoL, why do your thinking only limited to an pure Lightsworn deck? Just put a few lightsworn into a fiend or zombie deck. It gets better if Konami adds more Dark-Light combo related stuff.
