Even after 1 year (it was released in selection mini before) of usage, this card is still very good in combination of Treacherous Trap Hole.

The downside of floodgate is you have to use it when the target is summoned, where as chains you can trigger whenever.

You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 "Noble Knight" monster from your Deck.....

The text before ; is the COST you pay to activate an EFFECT. A COST is not considered an effect so it can't be negated.

Merlin tributed itself as cost and went to the gy, fiendish was no longer attached to it so the effect resolved.

It's a cost in name only.

A cost is only truly a cost if there is no advantage in performing said cost, aside from the effect that results from paying the cost.

The moment we can use cost to set up our graveyard for a myriad of graveyard effects, cost stopped being a cost. It's now cost in name only.

Still cope. Decks that have cards that directly activate when discarded as a cost are a minority, and as for decks that have cards with graveyard effects, that only works if 100% of the deck has a graveyard effect. I beat so many tryhards discarding all their blue eyes without having any follow ups and running out of resources. Bricks will happen, so discarding is a potential issue pretty much alw

yeah every day that passes I feel like this card gets worse, I barely use it nowadays I almost regret digging for 3 copies

Best trap card in the game along with Floodgate. Negating those broken monster effect is just too useful in the current meta.
