Gusto Synchro: deck recipe

Duel Links Breaking News
Blair Flannigan Unlock Event
update 28/01/2019

“Gusto” is an archetype of WIND monsters that was originally introduced in Visions of Ice back in May 2018 and that is yet to see any competitive play. One of the main things this archetype was previously lacking was a good Extra Deck to complement the various Special Summoning effects and this exactly what the new Mini BOX Tornado of Phantoms is seemingly trying to provide.

How to Use

Junk Synchron

When Normal Summoned, this Level 3 Tuner allows you Special Summon a Level 2 or lower monster from your Graveyard. Thanks to What Grows in the Graveyard, you will begin the Duel with a copy of Dark Verger already there, so Junk Synchron will instantly give you access to a Level 5 Synchro (Daigusto Gulldos or Armades, Keeper of Boundaries).

Gusto Gulldo & Winda, Priestess of Gusto

When Gusto Gulldo is sent from the field to the Graveyard, it allows you to Special Summon a Level 2 or lower “Gusto” monster from your Deck.

You can Set Gusto Gulldo on Turn 1, wait for your opponent to destroy it with a Koa'ki Meiru Maximus, Vampire Kingdom or simply by battle and then Special Summon Winda, Priestess of Gusto from your Deck in Defense Position. When Winda is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, it allows you to Special Summon a “Gusto” Tuner from your Deck (Gusto Gulldo).

Neither Gusto Gulldo nor Winda has limitations when it comes to how many their effects can be activated during the same turn: use this opportunity to set up your Graveyard for Daigusto Gulldos and thin your Deck at the same time.

Keep in mind that, if you use Gusto Gulldo as Synchro Material, its effect will miss the timing because it’s optional (“ can…”).

The Extra Deck

When it attacks or is attacked, Armades prevents your opponent from activating cards or effects until the end of the Damage Step. This Level 5 is able to nullify popular Battle Traps such as Drowning Mirror Force and Wall of Disruption together with the floating effects of cards like Silent Magician and Silent Swordsman.

Another Level 5 Synchro with a pretty powerful effect: once per turn, by shuffling two “Gusto” monsters from your Graveyard into your Main Deck, Daigusto Gulldos allows you to destroy a face-up monster your opponent controls, essentially giving you a way to deal with high ATK monsters such as Koa'ki Meiru Maximus and Cosmo Brain while also preventing you from decking out before your opponent.

You can Summon Junk Destroyer by using Junk Synchron and Armades, Keeper of Boundaries or Daigusto Gulldos. When Synchron Summoned, Junk Destroyer allows you to destroy a number of cards on the field equal to the number of non-Tuner monsters used to Summon it. Junk Destroyer’s effect doesn’t require you to have any particular monsters in the Graveyard and it activates on Summon, which means your opponent won’t be able to use Floodgate Trap Hole or Paleozoic Canadia to prevent it.

Since Pilica, Descendant of Gusto’s effect requires some prior setup and also pretty much forces you to run a Level 2 Tuner, Junk Synchron + What Grows in the Graveyard is the easiest way to Summoning Daigusto Gulldos.

  • Without Gusto Gulldo, you will likely be completely open to an OTK from Koa'ki Meiru on Turn 2. Your backrow can also be negated by Koa'ki Meiru Sandman, which is why we would advise running Sphere Kuriboh or even Kuriboh.
  • Koa'ki Meiru Ice together with Koa'ki Meiru Maximus can get through the Gusto Gulldo + Winda, Priestess of Gulldo combination.
  • There are a lot of monsters you can’t get over naturally with anything in your deck: Wall of Disruption is highly advised to solve this issue. We are also running Enemy Controller in the Example Deck to take advantage of the various Special Summoning effects.

I think this deck is pretty much playable right now, guess the ban of onslaught helped many decks to come back to competition.

There's a Gusto Kog deck at Duel Links Meta.
It is competitive, but not in the first week of the season.
Does Griffin work with transcendent crystals?

Anybody figure out how to get past AG with this deck?

Yeah I run 1 or 2 copies of acid rain in all my decks
It's actually very *(relatively) cheap to make a full Gusto build. They don't really need Staples, either.
3x Gulldo
2x Egul
3x Winda
1x Pilica
1x Reeeeeeze
1x Musto
1x Caam

2-3x Shrine of Mist Valley(open with it)
2x Future Glow

1x Blessings for Gusto
1-2x Brain Hazard
I like a Limit Reverse, but there's like 2-3 slots that can be filled with drowning, tth, Space-time Police, thunbolt(those together) Trap stun, Mana dragon, econ, mystic box or... IDK, another Caam.

It's important to understand how powerful Future Glow and Brain Hazard are.
So let me leave you all with this..
What happens to little Winda when you banish one of your synchros(I'll let you decide which one) for Future Glow?

I like how they are fairly competitive without being expensive at all. I just saw a Playmaker video featuring this deck and the dude totally kicks ass. They can win even against Koa'ki Meirus. Not a weak deck at all.
Dkayed deck detected with another version junk synchro

But if you try to use contact with gusto or pychonesis, this deck will be OP

#lets try, lets a duel

I'm going to try and build a version that focuses more on Psychic "Gusto" monsters and add it later on to the website.
my cheap-ass variant:
1x Pillica
1x Mach Synchron
1x Egul
1x Reeze
2x Thunbolt
2x Gulldo
2x Winda
1x Squirro
2x Kamui
1x Griffin
1x Dark World Dealings
1x Shrine of Mist Valley
2x Contact With Gusto
3x Blessings for Gusto

1x Stardust Dragon
1x Eguls
2x Gulldos
1x Falcos

I've never lost to Blue-Eyes or Koa'ki with this deck. Ancient Gears are an issue sometimes but generally if it don't banish or do piercing damage, it ain't breaking through the wall of Gusto.

This deck really needs updating, like dayum I’ve seen some kick-*ss gusto decks that can easily defeat geartown or six samurai, but dayum it does not look like this.

I would really love to see these decklist ! Ancient gear is such a bad match up for gusto...
Actually if you just fill your deck with pure archetype floaters (and 2 Reeze) and run 3x Blessings for Gusto, this deck isn't half bad. It's a kind of a Monarch-style deck, just patiently wearing though your opponent's resources and doing what you can with a steady stream of mid-grade beaters. Reeze is also a fantastic non-destruction removal card.

Yes, I played this deck in Loaner Decks and yeah, it's quite stalling and resourceful even without the heavy techs.
Anyone built a decent Gusto deck? without using Junk + What grows in the graveyard.

Pilica is available in DL, and I thought that card is pretty damn good for Gusto.

TranquilWyvern Reply
Without Sphreez, Pilica can only reliably get Psychic Nightmare at 6, which is alright, but nothing close to Sphreez. Unfortunately, Falco or Squirro are needed if you want to get Gulldos through Pilica, but theyre just dead cards otherwise.

Heres my decklist. It isnt super optimized, but I think its solid enough. I run 1 DFalcos, 2 DGulldos, 1 P. Nightm, 1 DEguls, and 1 Strdst Drgon in ex.

Heck... this looks nothing like my Daigusto Synchro deck... are you sure this is accurate?

I don't think that it is supposed to be an accurate representation of your gusto deck. But you could post it so that we could compare them.
Gusto Synchro is actually very decent if you play it with Kamui and the Squirrel ! However, I dunno why they put fire king.
Another junk synchron + armades deck. boring.
