Yubel Fire King: deck recipe

Overview

The concept behind this deck is actually quite old: Yubel synergizes very well with the “Fire King” archetype and its second form, Yubel - Terror Incarnate, together with Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys, can actually lock down the opponent completely.

My Name is Yubel
Once per turn, shuffle "Yubel - Terror Incarnate" or "Yubel - The Ultimate Nightmare" from your hand into deck, and add 1 "Yubel" from your deck to your hand.

How to Use

Yubel & Fire King Island

Once per turn, you can destroy a monster in your hand or that you control with Fire King Island and then add a “Fire King” monster from your deck to your hand or, if you control no monsters, you can Special Summon 1 Winged-Beast FIRE monster from your hand.

The first part of the effect of the Field Spell allows you to trigger Yubel’s effect and Special Summon Yubel - Terror Incarnate from your hand, Deck or Graveyard while also adding Fire King Avatar Yaksha or Fire King Avatar Barong to your hand, whereas with the second part you would be able to get Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys on the field right away.

This is the combination of cards that you want to start with: My Name is Yubel allows you shuffle back into the Deck one of the two other forms of the monster and add a copy of the first form to your hand, making the deck more consistent.

Fire King Avatar Yaksha

If you did not start with Fire King Island, don’t worry, you can still activate Yubel’s effect: when Yaksha is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard, you can destroy a card in your hand or that you control.

Yaksha’s effect is not mandatory, so you don’t have to activate it, but you can use it to send Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys to the Graveyard and destroy all Spell/Trap Cards on the field when it’s revived by its own effect on your next turn.

Fire King Avatar Barong

You can’t activate Fire King Island’s effect unless you have a “Fire King” monster in your Deck to add to your hand. Barong has the exact same stats as Yaksha and, just like it, it can be Special Summoned from your hand when a face-up “Fire King” monster you control is destroyed by card effect.
If Barong is destroyed by card effect, you can add another “Fire King” card from your deck to your hand during the next Standby Phase, including the Field Spell.

Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys & Yubel - Terror Incarnate Lockdown

Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys Special Summons itself from the Graveyard during your Standby Phase after it was destroyed by card effect, destroying all Spell/Trap Cards on the field, whereas Yubel - Terror Incarnate destroys all monsters on the field, except for itself during your End Phase: these two cards can completely lock your opponent, wiping out everything that is on the field every single turn.

Without Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys this deck would have trouble dealing with Amazons as they can just banish Yubel and Yaksha with Amazoness Onslaught, so it’s pretty important to have it, even though going back to Dawn of Destiny to get three copies of it is not advised.

Yubel - The Ultimate Nightmare

The best thing about Yubel is easily the fact that, when it is destroyed by card effect, it floats into its next form, but there is to say that, among all three, the “final form” is the most underwhelming. Sure, you can attack your opponent’s monsters, deal effect damage equal to their attack and then destroy them, but it just doesn’t compare to blowing up all monsters on the field.

Sphere Kuriboh

Since Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys is going to destroy your own Spell/Traps too, you can’t really run common Battle Traps like Wall of Disruption or even cards like Paleozoic Canadia because you run the risk of wasting them; Sphere Kuriboh is great in this deck because it’s a Hand Trap, your opponent can’t do anything about it Hey, Trunade! or Cosmic Cyclone.

Sphere Kuriboh can avoid OTKs from decks like Masked HEROes, Fur Hires and Vampires while you wait for Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys to come back.

Yubel
Yubel

This Skill makes the deck a lot more consistent, making it easier to start your main combo. You obviously don’t want to Special Summon Terror Incarnate or Ultimate Nightmare from your hand and My Name is Yubel allows you to shuffle them back into the Deck.

Other Useful Cards

CardExplanation
Planet Pathfinder
Planet Pathfinder
You can tribute this card to add Fire King Island to your hand; it’s not a bad choice, but you are still likely wasting your Normal Summon to get it on the field and a Floodgate Trap Hole or Paleozoic Canadia would easily stop it.
Limit Reverse
Limit Reverse
This Continuous Trap can revive Yubel, it does have synergy with it, but, since the deck runs Phoenix, it might not be worth it.

Matchups

Vampire Matchup

Sphere Kuriboh can avoid OTKs, Phoenix can blow up both Vampire's Domain and Vampire Kingdom and it doesn’t matter if the latter destroys it since it would just come back the next turn.

Vampire are usually very fast to set up, but their only way of getting rid of Yubel is through Vampire Kingdom’s effect, which is limited to once per turn. Even if Terror Incarnate is destroyed, you would still get to summon Ultimate Nightmare and attacking into Vampire Vamp, Vampire Grace or Vampire Scarlet Scourge with it and causing pretty substantial damage.

Fur Hire Matchup

Wiz, Sage Fur Hire can negate Fire King Island, Dyna, Hero Fur Hire can banish Phoenix from the Graveyard and Donpa, Marksman Fur Hire can destroy Terror Incarnate, but you still would get Yubel - The Ultimate Nightmare on the field. Fur Hires are quite problematic, but they not impossible to beat: Sphere Kuriboh can save you from an OTK while you set up for Terror Incarnate; even Fur Hires have trouble recovering from a full board wipe.

Amazoness Matchup

As I said, Amazoness Onslaught can be very problematic, but Phoenix should be enough to deal with it; the protection the Amazoness Queen provides for Amazoness monsters is pretty irrelevant since Terror Incarnate can destroy them with its effect and you generally don’t have to fear Amazoness Swords Woman attacking into your monsters since the one that is going to stay on the field has 0 ATK.

Not the easiest matchup, but, once Phoenix gets rid of the Continuous Trap, it should be pretty easy to win.

U.A Matchup

Cosmic Cyclone can get rid of Fire King Island on activation, preventing you from summoning Terror Incarnate and U.A. Penalty Box can get rid Yubel or Phoenix without destroying them for a few turns, but that’s the only way they have to get rid of your Boss Monster aside from Treacherous Trap Hole.

Masked HERO Matchup

Masked HEROes tend to try and end games very quickly, but they don’t usually have monster removal aside from Treacherous Trap Hole, so their best way of getting rid of Terror Incarnate would be to target it with Forbidden Chalice and then attack it while its effects are negated.

Again Sphere Kuriboh is very important: your opponent has no way of knowing you have it as long as you are not giving it away.

Silent Spellbook Matchup

Spellbook of Fate can banish Terror Incarnate or Phoenix, if your opponent wants to set cards freely, and, even if you destroy Silent Magician, its effect would Special Summon the Silent Magician LV8 version. Silent Magician can negate a Spell Card per turn, so Fire King Island might end up being useless, so this is possibly one of the hardest matchups.

Dark Bribe is now in the game. If you have a hard time with E Con and Canadia, this card is your ticket to put a halt to their counter. Use Warm Worm for extra lulz.

the problem is that you either use a deck full of traps, or do not use them at all

when you put 3 traps on the table the chance that at least one will stay much higher

Dark Bribe is not a bad tech at all, glad there is a safe way to counter canadia. Does Yubel have a line for it?

That card should be a kaiba's signature trap, not a yubel card lol

is the guy wrong anyway? have you read the manga? I remember there was a scene in which Kaiba offered Sugoroku lots of money in exchange of a card. (it was changed in the anime version), then there is another scene in which Seto is holding a gun and dealing with money

I actually used Wall of Disruption (x2) in my KoG deck for this season, its not a bad card at all, especially when the attack drop is permanent.
Anonymous
Ok this deck is 🔥. I don't have the ultimate nightmare but it is kinda useless anyway since you can not use it for the combo with the Phoenix. It is a pain to summon yubel and Phoenix fast enough
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
there is card of soul and skill my name is yubel or u can use restart instead. and yup u can just stall until u got another combo but yubel 2 in the field its already an advantage moreover when yubel 3 is release
<< Anonymous

Use interdimensional matter transporter or impenetrable attack to protect yubel from being destroyed by fire king island
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
the combo is to destroy pheonix with island while you have yubel in hand then search for yaksha and destroy her with that. destroying yubel with fire king island is best only if you need the quick board clear

Deck is fine, think it will disrupt many meta decks. Yubel and Phoenix simple to summon too.

kog rank up game, I realize my opponent has bad Internet, cause it kept on popping waiting for response a couple of times, but it would eventually fade so his Internet was still working but not very good.knowing this I ran to my basement with my phone, where the Internet was not that good and when waiting for response popped up again, I immediately covered my phone under my shirt to make connection a little more worse, then my act payed off, as my opponent lost due to connection loss.

He probably would lose due to bad connection regardless of you making the signal worse. If anything, making the signal worse only increases the chance of you losing connection and getting a loss.

Is the Yubel skill absolutely necessary for this deck to work well? Also, since I only have one sphere kuriboh, would it still help to add in two regular kuribohs even though they won't protect my monsters? Or should I use something else?

It is so sad. He is Aster Phoenix (last name emphasis) and yet he has a disadvantage with this deck... :(

I actually use Beatdown with this deck. A lot of the time, once Terror Incarnate is out, your opponent will just stall and not put any monsters out. Since you end up having only Terror out, you can't really do any damage. Beatdown allows you to kinda' poke at them, and it also allows Phoenix to hit a lot harder when it gets out, especially if you have both Phoenix and Terror out.

Cyber style is what im currently using till i get the skill. 2 kuribohs are fine i use them i dont have 3 sphere. most the time u want your monsters to be destroyed since theyll probably be fireking yaksha to destroy yubel or phoenix
<< Anonymous(Keu Sente)

instead of beatdown i just use some skystarray since they banish themselves after they attack directly. they will then come back after ur next standby phase

I just hit KoG with Yubel mill in a format full of Koaki Meiru no-brainers. I won 12 out of 12 games vs Koaki Meiru through Legend. Dont hate on this deck only because it does well into your Meta trash. The only thing this deck struggled with was e-con and U.A./Amazoness banishing Terror.

My recommendation is to not use sphere ebola but regular ebola instead. If you’ve got shallow grave use that, Ultimate nightmare will do its best to neutralize the shallow grave downside

Using regular Ebola vs Sphere Ebola let’s you survive armades and U.A slugger by affecting you vs changing their battle position.
<< Anonymous(Leeroy0971)

Armades and Mighty Slugger aren't Star Eater. They don't give a crap what's affected. You just straight can't activate anything, including Kuriboh.

an update about this mill strategy: Koa'ki meiru are using canadia to flip Ultimate terror facedown

I think they caught on so this deck isn't an auto win if your opponent knows what to do

I know Soul Exchange was too slow in the normal, non-Yubel version of Phoenix deck, but has anyone tried running 2-3 copies in Yubel deck?
It adds an additional source of monster removal and lets you summon Phoenix even more easily.
<< Anonymous(Anonymous No. 2)
Anonymous Reply
But Fire King Island gives you access to Terror right away, that's the whole point. You really don't want to be summoning base Yubel with it's tribute demands.

You can get over having Terror destroyed by Fire King Island by playing Interdimensional Transporter. Or you can just let it be destroyed and get a free Nightmare. You can always just destroy a second Yubel to get back Terror.
<< Anonymous
Anonymous Reply
Well you could just use dark core instead of tribute to the doomed
<< Anonymous
Anonymous No. 2 Reply
I'm not talking about Soul Exchange summoning Yubel, I'm talking about Soul Exchange summoning Phoenix, so you don't have to deal with the annoying Fire King Island effect.
And, there is a card releasing a while back that can search directly for Yaksha when destroyed.
<< Anonymous(Anonymous No. 2)
Anonymous Reply
Barong searches for Yaksha and Fire King Island, that's why it gets played.

Plus it's generally advantageous for Phoenix to be destroyed by Fire King Island so you can trigger it's effect. You've got to use stuff like forbidden dress to protect Yubel from the destruction effect.

It's not a cheap deck at optimum.

Maybe a bit too late, but if you're talking about Ultimate Nightmare, then Yubel it should destroy Nerokius, but I'm not sure.
The effect of Ultimate Nightmare is activated at the end of damage step. Also Ultimate Nightmare destroys by effect and not by battle
